What better way to blast open the doors to the weekend than with a brand new mix from Krafty Kuts! The Data Transmission crew sent out an invite to Krafty to feature in their ‘Mix Of The Day‘ mix series and he duly obliged and compiled one of his classic party starting mixes we become so accustomed too. For his new mix he has pulled together a selection previously unheard and exclusive material that sees him chop and change between Breaks, Bass House, D n B and Jungle with absolute ease and precision. This is Mr Kuts at his very best!

Krafty Kuts has also recently released a brand new album with his great friend, Dynamite MC. The late night tremors persist… Caspa’s single-track ‘Vibrations Series’ continues with another demonstrative dead drop. Having launched late last year with the perennial underground smasher ‘Umbongo’, followed by the heavy drama and high demand of ‘Venom’ and ‘Get Higher’ the low-end pioneer’s mission is simple: To deliver crystal club hitters with singular focus on quality, no unnecessary fluff or flab to any release, just precision focused primetime dark room bass that make every bone in your body vibrate. Well, the clue is in the title.

Next up in the series is ’33 Degrees’. Not just the perfect temperature for living and playing, or indeed an acute angle, but a track loaded with such stark strings and solar science we guarantee every hair on your skin will stand on end. Fuelled by a series of warm, unhurried modulations that take a tonal twist on the second drop, the tune ploughs deep into the cosmos with a strident dynamic that leaves nothing in its wake. Ageless classicism.

With no final date in sight and Caspa going on record to say he’s sitting on the biggest percy stash of bangers he’s ever made, these tremors are only going to get louder. Trust us; we’re going to be feeling good “Vibrations” for long time yet. Like we said, the clue is in the title…

As I type, there’s an election going down here in the UK, so here’s a little something to break up the monotony of all that politics talk that has gotten to be a little bit out of control. It’s volume 2 of last years ‘Bring On The Brass‘, which was a mix by myself and was part of a free CD giveaway here on LSM. I’ve taken the reigns of volume 2 again and I’m once again sending out a celebration of brass in the tracks I’ve chosen which, in my mind, always adds that extra spark to music.

Last years mix was a Ghetto Funk fest, but this time around it’s a Funk/Disco approach with my mind on the time of year it is too, so the summery vibes are there in full effect. There will be a CD giveaway of this mix again towards the end of July but for now, I hope you enjoy listening to this mix as much as I did putting it together.

Megan Hamilton is a lady who is always on new music making mission. She drops tunes at a regular rate and maintains a high quality finish every single time! Her most recent offering ‘Give It Up‘ comes as part of Breakbeat Paradise’s ‘Power Hour Free Download‘ series and what a stunner it is! This deep and ridiculously funky slice of Glitch Hop samples the legendary, Barry White, which definitely adds to the lush, bassy and groove heavy sounds Megan is providing this time around. Snap it up folks!

As I mentioned above, Megan is a busy lady when it comes to music and in the early part of this year she released her amazing debut album ‘Photosynthetic‘ with her funky brothers, The Bermudas. It features 10 tracks that puts on show the production and vocal skills Megan possess and the funkiness only The Bermudas can bring. The resulting tracks are a melting pot of Glitch Hop, Hip Hop, Jazz, Funk and Future Funk influences, which means there’s a little something for everyone. The music doesn’t stop there folks because there is now a remix album of ‘Photosynthetic’! The tracks on this album are being released individually and 7 out the 10 tracks have been released thus far. From the Great Plains of Canada comes Dunmore Park with their new EP ‘For The Forest’ on Supremus

The Deep Tech dive begins with ‘The Whistle’featuring vocals from Piper Davis and dubby rerub from Pezzner. Street Drummer’showcases the scope and talent of Dunmore Park through some first class production. Then comes our fave ‘That Conga Track’, a full on measure of tribal drums and driving beats with the pedal firmly down. Like the sounds of the forest coming alive in a club near you, this is truly awesome.

About a month ago, the incredibly reliable crew over at, Gouranga, had the pleasure to send everyone’s way this amazing Disco edit of Ian Dury And The Blockheads ‘Wake Up‘ by, Dicky Trisco. It’s an edit that was released about a month ago now to coincide with Ian Dury’s birthday because like so many others around the world, Discky Trisco views him as an absolute legend. We agree with him and we’re very much agreeing with his super catchy edit. Great energy, great tempo, great work!

The last time Canadian DJ/producer, Spiltmilk was here on the ward, he blew our minds with his Acid infused Disco EP ‘Freak The World‘. This time around he’s blowing our minds once again, firstly with just under 70 minutes of cosmic, sensual and down right funky Disco in his new mix ‘Crusin‘. If ever there was a mix suited for a road trip, this is it!

The second helping of mind blowing action comes our way with 2 new tracks that have been released on Spiltmilk’s own label, MSLX Recordings. Springbok Records bossman, Stephane Deschezeaux, provides a cool 80’s twist to his supa-groover remix of ‘On The Dot‘ by, Spiltmilk & Toffa. The second track sees Spiltmilk team up with his good friend, Zel, for their sleazy Disco chugger ‘Lets Go!‘ which is packed with attitude and is also a free download (Get It Here). Great sounds from a number of very talented artists. Be sure to get to know them all.

Tim Tama might be a name most of you don’t know. He hails from Holland and his schtick (schtick schtick) is industrial techno. This might not be to everyone’s taste as it’s often heavier than lead. But in amongst the pounding visceral beats and the, at times, frantic hi-hats are moments of pure beauty.

Of the 4 tracks on this EP the first track The Skin I: Remains is a heavy breakbeat influenced track with added acid beats. Well worth a listen.

Track 2 The Skin II: Chemicals is more industrial in sound but still holds enough interest for me at least.

Track 3 The Skin III(do you get the naming structure now) : Sometimes | Reminisce is to me the standout track it starts with a lovely orchestral synth with a hint of a kick drum like something dark knocking at the door trying to gain entry. Then bang the door is kicked open and in walks a thumping beat but all the while that synth washes over you kind of placating you. The first break comes not before time but the break is filled not with the synth as you’d expect but an acid rhythm before building and in comes that beat again but this time it is less insistent and the whole piece has taken on a fluid dance rhythm. To finish the track it goes all industrial to run through the whole gamut of musical emotions.

The final track Skin IV: None More Black is again more industrial beats but then at the break it hits into a slightly skittish drum and bass rhythm that slips and slides around a mysterious melody that sounds like it’s sprung from a science fiction film. The whole EP is worth a couple of listens to appreciate the depth of the music inside rather than the first shock of the industrial beats. I say buy it but take a listen first.

Music To Buy

Arteo is a firm favourite of ours and has been pretty busy of late. It wasn’t to long ago that he and his good friend Dubra released their phat, funky and bass heavy ‘Milk‘ EP on, Bombstrikes, and since then he’s dropped three tracks of his own. The most recent of these tracks is his take Galt Macdermot’s Soul sizzler ‘Hair‘. With the bass pepped up, the addition of new drums and the super soulful feel from the original, it’s a must have for the summer!
