Back in 2009, after hugely successful period of producing a string of top draw Breaks tracks, Romanian producer, Mesmer, created his own label, Scarcity Records. The label, eclectic in it’s approach, is heavly based around Breaks but opens it arms to a touch of Tech House, Dubstep and Drum and Bass. There’s not only a massive amount of music to be found on, Scarcity’s, Soundcloud page but the quality of the music you’ll find is seriously good. If you like you music dipped in lush melodies, acidic hooks and thunderous basslines then you’ll find a whole load of the good stuff right HERE!

The track posted for this weeks, Throwback Thursday, is a re-rub Mesmer did back in 2011 of ‘ Enjoy The Silence ‘ by, Depeche Mode, which was released on, Scarcity. It has, Mesmer’s, trademark sound stamped all over it being deep and lush whilst at the same time bringing huge amounts of energy. A very classy take on an 80’s classic, get stuck in!

Every April the world honours Yuri Gargarin, the first human in space. LOTEK and I do our part by co-hosting the dancey bits for a Yuri’s Night party at the Manitoba Museum.

We’re doing something similar to celebrate the anniversary of the Sputnik launch and World Space Week. The Sputnik Party will follow a similar trajectory as THE SHAKE, and special guest LAMBO, ignite the dance floor of the Manitoba Museum’s Planetarium. Once again inside the dome will be lit with visuals from two of the most talented visual artists I know: PIXEL PUSHER and TOXIC PROPHECY.

The evening will also feature special showings of Dawn of the Space Age. The Museum’s Sputnik will be on display – produced by the Soviets in the 1950’s. Additional displays and a cash bar in the science gallery will further rekindle curiosity for those wishing to get their science on with a drink in hand. As always, a space-themed costume contest gets bonus marks and gives you a chance to win cool prizes!

Tickets are $15 and includes free pizza, DJs, the planetarium show, and all the science fun you can handle.

Thursday, October 8
The Manitoba Museum
Tix: $15 (available online)

w/ DJs The Shake (Lotek and Manalogue) and Lambo; VJs Pixel Pusher and Toxic Prophecy

If you’re a fan of hard hitting Breaks then the name, Refracture, will be one you’ll be very familiar with. That alias belongs to, Paul Dobson, who is another producer who has taken to working under his own name to show that although he loves to make Breaks monsters to smash dance floors to smithereens, he also has a taste for House music that’s created to show the dance floor some love and there’s a whole lot of love emanating from his new EP ‘ Together ‘.

‘ Together ‘ is a full on four to the floor, four track EP with heart wrenching strings, an abundance of super heavy bass and a huge dose of 90’s piano and well, who doesn’t like a dose of 90’s piano to really get those hands raised and get the goosebumps alive! If you can pick a winner out of the four tracks then fair do’s! All we know is, all of these tracks are suited and booted and set to dazzle amongst the lights and the lasers!

The EP is released by, FourThreeSix, and as was the case with their first release ‘ Creeper ‘ by, James Mannion, their second release from Paul is part of a wearable series. This comprises of an EP with an artist of choice to provide a classy piece of cover art which is then printed onto a t-shirt. The artwork for Paul’s release ‘ Together ‘ comes from Bristol’s designer and street artist, Retox. If the artwork provided with this post rocks your mind head HERE to get yourself a quality t-shirt.

Buy ‘ Together ‘ here.

As a bonus to this post you can get your hands on Paul’s most recent offering he made with his good buddy, Rektchordz, which offers a touch more piano andsoulful vocals in their techy, feel good House track ‘ Believe ‘.
