Fort Knox Five - Keep It Poppin Feat. Mustafa Akbar (Wes Smith Remix)

Open on Soundcloud

The big day has finally arrived and it’s now time for us all to join in the celebrations with Fort Knox Five as they roll out their 100th release. As we mentioned not too long ago when we brought you the world exclusive of their ‘Funk The World 36‘ mixtape, the release is well worthy of such an occasion.

Fort Knox Five’s ‘Pressurize The Cabin Remixed’ album is the release that everyone who encounters it will get overly excited about. Rightly so to because on the album are 20 of the biggest remixes from their masterpiece that is ‘Pressurize The Cabin‘. When we say ‘biggest remixes’ we really mean ‘biggest remixes’ because featuring on the new album is a bunch of immensely talented producers from all around the world with many of them being household names, well, to all of us cool cats anyway.

You can find filthy, bass heavy Glitch Hop from, The Funk Hunters, Father Funk, Basement Freaks, Bobby C Sound TV, Sammy Senior, J*Labs and Warp9. To cleanse the mind just a little after all that filth, Slynk, All Good Funk Alliance, FaridUrsula 1000, Smalltown DJs, SkiiTour and DJ Dan & Mike Balance all offer remixes with varying flavours of Nu-Disco, Indie Dance and House. Deekline and Wes Smith weigh in with a couple of Breakbeat rockers each and to keep Fort Knox Five’s eclectic sound rolling, Bart & Baker bring the swing, Knight Riderz provide a mind altering Trap remix and Thunderball (FK5’s alter ego) smashes out a huge D n B remix. It goes without saying that all of these tracks are laced with the feel good Funk Fort Knox Five are so well known for. There is definitely something for everyone on this amazing album, that you can be sure of.

The album is also a tribute to the always missed and always remembered, Jon Horvath. It’s one year now since he sadly left the world but his spirit shines bright through the entirety of ‘Pressurize The Cabin Remixed’. One of the best albums you could ever own? You betcha!

One of the killer party anthems on Fort Knox Five’s new album Pressurize The Cabin is Keep It Poppin featuring Mustafa Akbar of Nappy Riddem. After getting everybody to Funk For Peace on Radio Free DC, Mustafa is back again with more positive feel good party lyrics to keep the vibes going. On this release, the next single from the new album, Fort Knox Five have enlisted the help of some close friends and old school legends to truly keep it popping!

Their friendship forged in the old school rave days, Fort Knox Five and DJ Dan have been close for decades. The DJ Dan and Mike Balance Remix is an indie nu-disco meets G-House banger, full of West Coast flavor. Bubbling beats and pitched down vocals combined with funky synths creates a new school take on an old school sound.
Wes Smith, another alumni of the old school scene, has been topping the breakbeat charts with releases on his label Juice Recordings. His reworking of Keep It Poppin transforms the original into a high energy breakbeat workout. Rounding out the release is Worthy’s deep future house remix, full of chunked out beats and blips, sure to whip the dancefloor into a frenzy. As part of San Francisco’s Dirtybird crew, Worthy brings a fresh new sound which is going off worldwide.

This collection of remixes is engineered to get people on their feet and dancing! With sounds ranging from from nu-disco to deep future house and breakbeat, DJs and old school ravers alike will find these tunes booty shaking. Instrumentals are also available of all three remixes, and you can expect to hear some of these tunes getting the party started, so let’s Keep It Poppin.

Fort Knox Recordings is the renegade funk ‘n soul label from Washington, DC. Established in 2003, our mission is to explore the funkier side of global music. Fort Knox is set to ‘Tell it like it is’ by smashing the artificial barriers established by the ‘System’ that keeps all good music down. Forget about tempos and genres – we want to take you back to the roots and unite all music from our funk, dub, & soul; brothas & sistas – you dig? So stop being so serious, this is music, it’s supposed to be fun.
