PERPLEXUS: PUT YOU ON (PENGUIN & GOOSE REMIX)

If you like your house to wobble slightly, here’s a mighty fine tune. Huge round bassline bounce over a shuffling snares – this is nearly the perfect fusion of house and garage. After hearing this jam, PENGUIN & GOOSE could be the duo to watch in the coming months.

Ram Jam – Black Betty (The Swing Bot remix)
French Dj / Producer The Swing Bot has been making tunes with funky edge since 2003. Originally producing House, Electro and Hip-Hop tracks he has now focused his sights on the joyous sounds of Electro Swing and a damn fine job he is doing to!
Here The Swing Bot takes the classic Ram Jam – Black Betty, a hit in 1977 and adds his own present day personnel touch. Keeping the original guitar riff running through the track he takes modern day bounce and bass and turns it in to a Electro Rock dancefloor stomper!

Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is back with the second installment of the compilation EPs Bring Back The Funk. Once again a strong collection of fresh jams from some new names in the scene as well as some well-established ones. All tunes has common deep roots in the raw sound of the funk from back in the days – all the way from the oldskool original funk to the bassy spectrum of ghetto funk.
BBP is proud to finally welcome the nu funk spectacular and good friend of the label: Funktomas with the raw ghetto funk banger Let Me Clear My Throat. Funktomas has numerous vinyl releases under his belt from big labels like Wack, Sunset Soul, Resense & Grood Groove.
The EP also introduces other new names on the label like J-Sound, who is best known from his ghetto funk releases on Scour Records. J-Sound is taking it back to the oldskool on his smooth ghetto funk joint On and On.
Furthermore the EP introduces a brand new upcoming ghetto funk act: Phibes who is dropping the funky debut jam Heartache Is Dangerous, which mashes up some classic soul grooves with some undeniably funky beats. Phibes has a 4-track solo EP in the making to drop over the summer right here on BBP.
Conte Crux is back to Swipe The Funk on Vol. 2 of the Bring Back The Funk series – just like he did it on vol. 1 with his Turn It Up track.
Finally the funky producer duo Ad’N’Kuts joins the BBP family with their uptempo disco banger Disco Bombs. Ad’N’Kuts consists of Aditup & Dastardly Kuts, who are already well-established names in the nu funk/ghetto funk scene.
Last but not least Mr. Bristow has cooked up an oldskool mashup joint to conclude the EP and make sure we are brought way back to the world of funk. Mr. Bristow is soon to release a full 4-track EP on BBP with his partner in crime MC Benny Silver.

Another installment of Legit:Fridays is upon us this week. The monthly is dedicated to bass music done proper and focuses its frequencies on the underground. You won’t be turned away if you’re wearing neon, but chances are if you’re PLURing out with it, you’ll likely be in the minority.
Friday, May 23 (and every 2nd last Friday of the month)
Ozzy’s (160 Osborne Street)
Tix: $5 before midnight / $10 after
Facebook event page
On the bill this month is GRUDGE, who may or may not let loose the sub bass at 100 bpm. Memetic‘s director NATHAN ZAHN is a house and techno purist so I’m curious as to what he’s going to play. CHRIS KOMUS is a wonderkid of glitch. The last time I heard him play he opened for Stickybuds and the sonics he had in his set were otherworldly. I’m also on the bill and have been building a crate for months for this show. It’s going to go something like this…
