TOOLROOM IBIZA 2014

It’s no understatement that Toolroom Records is one of the strongest independent labels pushing underground dance music and it’s culture. It goes without saying that the label plays a prominent role in breaking big names and accelerating the careers of the talented artists releasing material on the imprint. The label’s success has been proven time and time again.
Their latest compilation, Toolroom Ibiza 2014, showcases an unmistakable selection of Toolroom approved grooves that perfectly encapsulate the sound of the White Isle. In perfect time for the opening parties, it is an essential accompaniment to lazy days by the pool, hedonistic club nights, and hazy after parties spread over 65 tracks (yes 65!) and three lovingly crafted dj mixes. With the essential blend of new cuts and 28 exclusive tracks from the worlds finest producers, the compilation includes music from label boss MARK KNIGHT, Breach, Tensnake, MK, Route 94, Hot Since 82, Rene Amesz, Nice7, Prok & Fitch, Doorly, Ben Pearce, Tourist, Maya Jane Coles, My Digital Enemy, Hannah Wants, Bontan, UMEK, Jay Lumen, Chus & Ceballos, Beckwith, London Grammar and many many more.
The entire release runs over 10 and a half hours. Like, what!? You read that right. Over 10 hours of quality house music. This might just be the only musical purchase needed for the entire summer. Honestly, it’s kind of stupid how good this is. Below you’ll find a few previews but for the full tracklist, just click here and pre-order it from iTunes now.

The Glitch Mob – Love Death Immortality

It should be hard to go through the world of breaks and glitch without hearing about The Glitch Mob at some point—for good reason. Formed in 2006, they released their first album Drink the Sea in 2010 with moderate success, which led to a cover story being written about them on eMusician. After “Drive it Like You Stole it” hit number 2 on XL8R8’s top downloaded songs of 2010 list, it was clear that The Glitch Mob would help popularize genres such as glitch-hop and dubstep.
Some might disagree with The Glitch Mob’s impact on musical culture, but it is hard to ignore the effect it has had on people’s lives throughout the world. Back in 2012, a man named Grant Korgan tried to recover from a broken back with partial paralysis, defying doctors that claimed he would never walk again. His friend had written the Mob about his condition and he returned from the hospital to see signed shirts, drumsticks, and their album Drink the Sea waiting for him.
Korgan put it best himself when he said “The drop hit and I started crying—pure emotional release. They pushed me to go as hard as humanly possible.” In time, with the help of his music, Korgan regained the feeling in his legs and even went on a trip to the south pole. He carried The Glitch Mob with him the entire way and planted their flag at the pole. Talk about music having the power to inspire!
The Glitch Mob has also become popular in the gaming world and has been featured in numerous videos online. Most recently, their track “Can’t Kill Us” was used for the character trailer for the hugely popular upcoming game Watchdogs. They are also a common hit for gamers in the world of poker, being used for videos by
. PartyPoker on YouTube did a quick survey of players at a Copenhagen event and found that many players prefer to
, even at live games. While their musical taste is as diverse as their backgrounds, bands such as The Glitch Mob are commonly named by players. Fans of the genre know that glitch music can be epic and motivating, and many players believe music helps them with their game, whether that is simply working out at the gym or avoiding tilt at the tables.
The band most recently released their second album, Love Death Immortality, topping Billboard’s Electronic/Dance chart. This album features the previously mentioned hit “Can’t Kill Us,” which sold thousands in the first weeks of its release. While the album is a bit of a transition from their first release, the elements of glitch-hop are still clearly present in The Glitch Mob’s latest work. While the album features ample use of vocals and has a more rock-’n'-roll feel at times, it is still definitely worth a look for any glitch-hop fan, especially those who enjoyed the Mob’s first album.
The band’s newest album is a perfect piece for live shows, and it’s no surprise that they continue to sell out concerts during their tour this season. As their live shows were a big part of what originally them popular, it is fitting for them to push their talent to the live arenas with their latest album. Fans surely aren’t disappointed, and The Glitch Mob has no problem filling up a house. The UK can look forward to them at the end of May and August as their tour takes them around Europe and the US.
If you want to hear what The Glitch Mob has been up to lately, they released a few samples on Soundcloud.
