During a career that has spanned over a decade, if there’s one producer in the world of drum & bass who constantly and consistently delivers top quality output then you need look no further than one name: Break. When it comes to A-list beat makers it doesn’t really get much bigger. Owner of Symmetry Recordings with an exceptional catalogue of music spread across some of the scenes most respected labels, Sigma and Life Recordings are extremely excited and proud to present their latest single from the man himself.

Taking the lead is Groove With It. Hard hitting marching drums lay the foundation and create space for ride cymbals and twisted, squelching bass patches to fill the in the rest. It’s a musical thump to the skull that you’re totally fine with taking, Groove With It stomps with all the heavyweight feel and confidence of new Timberland boots. Don’t even get us started on the cheeky vocal sample either, adding an extra dose of bad boy boom bap being laid on your ears.

Soldier switches up the mood yet still retains that heavyweight trademark Break sound. Shuffling two step breaks and gut wrenching low end, a staple of much of his material, give it more of a darker edge. Soldier is reminiscent of Break’s material on DNAudio and is proof that when it comes to the raw basics of this music: just drums, just bass… there is no one who does it better. Let it be known that Soldier is definitely one for the heads and those bass stabs on the second drop. You have been warned.

With the stamp of approval coming from one of drum & bass’s highly regarded musicians it’s more evidence that Life Recordings is moving in the right direction and there’s more exciting stuff to come. For now though… it’s time to Groove With It.

Imagine bass music, with an analogue soul, coming straight from the motherland of electro. Sound good? Well, that’s Marten Hørger. Combined with Brisbane’s own Sangers & Ra’s big bass sound, Stav from Bluejuice’s infectious vocals, they’ve created an acid tech bass hit ‘Out Of Our Minds’.

Marten Hørger has been publicly hailed as the bonified hero of the Stanton Warriors, Krafty Kuts & “the man to watch” by DJ Icey. These praises have been realised with official remixes for the superstar acts, and winning Best Track & Best Producer at the 2014 International Breakspoll Awards. Hørger kickstarted his career at the age of 15 & over the years has developed his unique and aptly titled “I don’t give a fuck” blend of Breaks, Electro, Dubstep & Hip Hop. With international tours, billings at festivals like KaZantip & Notting Hill Carnival, releases on Ministry of Sound & collaborations with Leeroy Thornhill (of The Prodigy), 2014 is set to be another huge year!

Sangers & Ra exploded onto the international dance music scene having released a Top 10 Beatport anthem as their debut single. They’ve travelled the globe playing at festivals like KaZantip, Snowbombing, Parklife, Future Music and Stereosonic, host their own radio show Big Bass Party on Radio Metro as well as deliver an iTunes podcast of the show. Having previously worked with the likes of ARIA award winner, N’Fa Jones (1200 Techniques), it seems about time for the pair to collaborate with another Australian artist in Stav & one of their heroes, Marten Hørger, creating a contemporary bass hit in the process!

First up is ‘You Think We’re Stupid’ which heads straight to the dance floor in a heads down 4am banger style with its classic breakbeats and a finely honed bass line. Next up is ‘In The Front’ which mixes Prodigy style riffs with jumping beats and with the infectious ‘are you ready’ vocal the energy and vibes on this one are at 100% all the way. Finishing off this EP is ‘Chickens In The Truck’ a no-nonsense groover reminiscent of the classic days of Marine Parade breaks.

New Releases Electro Swing Elite – Compilation 2014 This has to be the biggest release of the month with the Electro Swing Elite pulling together a range of quality tracks for their first proper release. It’s available from beatport and here’s the megamix of the whole compilation:

Lamuzgueule – Bada Boom Boom Swing Lamuzgueule are a live french electro swing band who mix swing, balkan and electro beats with narative and ironic french lyrics. Their songs are bubbly and completely in the electro-swing “retro-actual” style, with saxophone, vocals and guitar trio playing old melodies with electronic beats. This is their second album which has just come out.

Swingrowers – Do Not Cover EP Nick Hollywood has freshly squeezed some more juice out of the Swingrowers with this nice little EP of covers. Available from Juno.

Underground music specialists FUNKYSTEPZ join the Four40 Records family with a knockout 4-track EP, infusing UKG, UK funky, house, and of course bass. The Kings Cross EP draws on a range of underground music influences, condensed into the realm of house music that’s equally melodic and heavy. You can preview below but you can save the trouble and get the 320s from Juno right now. Seriously, this entire EP is a 10/10.

The title track combines a choir chorus and bubbling basslines with subtley funky shuffle.

“Bump X” conjures some 90s nostalgia with its key stabs and 4/4 kicks. This is a track that’ll get the ladies’ hips moving while simultaneously cause a ruckus with the lads.

“Boyz In Da Hood” is an all out jackin’ number, styled with a little g-house flair and the perfect amount of grime for those times when the dancefloor craves something a little dirty.

“Twister” is all about surprises. The tune starts with a garage shuffle but immediately drops into something more sinister. Just as fast, the track changes back. These switches are executed perfectly – even though they’re abrupt, the track flows like vodka at a hen party.
