Ben Venom – The Creative Impulse EP [Top Drawer Digital ]
You can always expect fine output from Top Drawer Digital, Ben Venom is a producer who has featured on the label before with great tunes like ‘Hold Tight’ and ‘I’m A Shadow’ and his new EP keeps up with his slick production and penchant for turning out euphoric and thoroughly banging tracks!!!
‘Alchemist’ opens with a trance like intro and old skool rave stabs building up the tension before exploding into some filthy bass and breaks
‘Sky Mission’ also opens with a epic intro and tough 2 steppy breaks, the pads and melodies sit in that space between old skool rave, trance and house, uplifting and energetic while ragga style vox slip and slide in and out of the mix, all in all 2 excellent tracks from the mighty Top Drawer Digital!!!

Legion & Logam drops there new Single “House of Cards “on Program
“House of cards “is a nice Deep Roller
“Solace “is a nice String Leyden Chilled piece of DNb
Both will Work on a Deep Dancefloor
Few artists can boast the same creative scope as Legion & Logam. Owning a back catalogue of melodic rollers which exemplify their lasting impression, the trio’s technicality often goes unrivalled.
It’s unsurprising then, that Program stepped up and showcased this exciting and pivotal release. For anyone unaware of their masterful production style, the artists have introduced themselves in two halves. And both tracks are delicately woven, sonic blasts to the aural senses.
The ride begins with ‘House of Cards’, tightly coiling its energy like a spring and snapping under its audible weight. Firmly compact with booming drum loops sat defiantly amongst the scratch, snap and skit of percussion, the two elements juxtapose flawlessly. The ethereal arpeggio of piano notes leads into the soulful, wispy vocal of Adam Wright, and it adds a delicacy to the record which only emphasises its detail. Nevertheless, it still holds an intimidating depth which begins to surge with power between each layer. Every break subdues your synapses into submission, as they struggle to intercept the icy allure that this track manifests.
Next up is ‘Solace’, a power house of emotion conveyed with each atmospheric pad succession. The melody weaves back and forth through a pumping-bassline, skipping momentarily, before driving the track forward and pulling every sound into a wave of command. The more humanistic elements are brought to the surface, despite being quickly submerged, ghost-like against its musicality. Relentless, dark and brooding, but full of clarity and sentiment, this record consummates a style which the producers are renowned for.
With an obvious nod to the liquid vibe prevalent throughout the dnb community, but turning it into something more distinct and imposing, this was the perfect project for both the imprint and the artists.
So once again…. it’s time to get with the Program!

VA-ASBO: THE REMIX EP [ASBO RECORDS]
Asbo Records serve up their first in a series of remix EPs and the gold standard remains, these guys don’t mess about!!!! 4 firing remixes, first up we have the seriously bass heavy remix of Jinx’s ‘Who Goes There’ by Sterling Sound, then the script is flipped as Jinx takes on Sterling Sound’s ‘Ladies Ting’ whose slinky intro gives away for some roling vibes and reverberating bass in that timeless jungle fashion!!! Next up, another Sterling Sound reworking, this time of Habitat’s ‘Around The Clock’, classic jungle breaks, hip hop and ragga samples, this one takes it back to 95 with a beast of a tearout track!!!! We finish up with Habitat’s remix of Sterling Sound’s ‘No Doubt’ going for the 2 step vibes a la Roni Size back in the day, another winner from the Asbo camp!!!!

Psilo – Scintillate Ghettofunk 2014 Mix
” This mix took many months to create and is a follow-up to my previous mix “Just A Sample”. My idea for the mix was simply to create something unique using tracks that mean something to me personally. With the exception of being a diverse ghettofunk-style production, there are no specific genres associated with this mix and I simply included tracks that I wanted without any regard to release date or artist popularity. “

Electro Swing Roundup – August 2014
Well it’s that wonderful time of year again and the festivals are coming thick and fast. Top of the pile in the swing world goes to the mighty Boomtown which has an absolutely cracking swing lineup once again. If you haven’t been before, get in there quick because you truly won’t regret it. Instead of paying over the top for over-rated pop stars and indie bands, Boomtowns policy is all about strength in depth. They have one of the biggest lineups of bands and DJ’s you’ve ever seen and the sheer effort they put into the setup of the site and their production values simply has to be seen to be believed. Come down, check it out, and if you find these blog posts useful come tell me after I play in the Ballroom!
It’s been sad to hear that Dutty Moonshine have lost one of their founding members with Alex Furley moving on to other projects. You’ll be sadly missed sir and good luck for the future. (Do realise though that if you quit now you’ll never to be able to snog our best friend again like happened last year at Swingamapig. Apparently he said that doesn’t normally happen to him but I don’t believe a word of it… )
Finally Bertie Dastard happened to mention that if I advertise this Roundup as always coming out on the 1st of the month, I should deliver. Well, this one just about squeezes in but I’ve still got a few more tracks to include so I might do an update in a day or so!
Free Music The Jenova Collective seem to be going well at the moment with a great looking live show and a regular stream of releases. They’ve chipped in here with a nice little remix of Caravan Palace.
Like this. Grant Lazlo with a deep electro blues groover:
Great little balkan groover here from Savages & Suefo:
Another month, another remix of I Heard It Through The Grapevine? Yep although do quite like this.
Kiwistar seems to be heavier. I reckon this is a new genre – Horn n Bass?
This is back on gentler ground. Sophisticated swing and beautiful singing from Elle, The Bells & The Trick:

Here’s DJ Curb with a nice little soulful track:
Mashing together various swing classics here:
Answers on a postcard please for how to describe this one Swingbot…
Brightons Basschimp has mashed up Eminem with possibly the most seminal track in electro swing:
New Releases DJ Dunya – Xyloswing EP DJ Dunya has turned up a few times on this blog and it’s great to see that he’s now got his debut EP on non other than Freshly Squeezed Records. This EP is slick quality swing which is designed for the dancefloor.
Le Mozeltov Tov (Green Queen Music) Dr Cat and Francis Red have come through with a nice 2 track EP on the ever consistent Green Queen. Dr Cat turns it into a stomping balkan march while Francis Red adds a bit more bottom end mischief ideal for a later night slot. Available exclusively from Beatport.
Here’s the Dr Cat mix:
And the Francis Red:
Morlack – Wonderful Day (F-Block Remix) Drum & bass tracks featuring vintage samples are always quite hard to come by so don’t miss this F-Block remix off the recent Morlack album. If you like the Louis Armstrong vocals there’s an original version too. Available from Juno.
DJ Mixes Menage Quad have stepped up with a DJ mix this month:
Really like this chilled out mix from BillionDan. Quality downtempo swing action:
Swings & Roundabout’s Vol.2 Parov Stelar & Friends (Chillout). Mixed By BillionDan by Dan $Mith (Billiondan) on Mixcloud
That’s it. See you in a month! If you’ve got anything you’d like included in future roundups hit me up on soundcloud.

Stealth – Homage
Stealth Drop there new Single
Homage
On Program Records
“Homage “ is Dark Roller that will keep the tech heads happy
Feel the Bass when this Missile DRops !!!!
Good Vibes
Out 28/07/14 - http://tinyurl.com/nzb6r7e
Worldwide Release: 28th July
Staying true to his name, Stealth has craftily taken centre stage. Every record he’s released oozing with sophistication has repeatedly stolen the spotlight. And this next one is no exception.
The production connoisseur yet again goes for the aural jugular, using ProgRAM as a launch pad. Stealth demonstrates the imprint’s forward thinking movements and command of a genre which often goes unmatched. The relationship has been harmonious; alongside ProgRAM, he’s already made a crater sized impact within the dnb community… And it’s not difficult to see why.
‘Homage’ leads in a tightly fashioned intensity. Dark, brooding and with plucky percussion, it’s a tribute to the sound Dillinja mastered. An instantly recognisable vocal sample is filtered through the record’s menace, meandering perfectly between the bassline’s thumps which eventually drop us into LFO-lead chaos. Piece by piece the main melody begins to build, throbbing until it completely over-takes the record’s more humanistic elements. Audibly stocky, yet with a dimension that rings true of Stealth’s icy production, it’s a relentless roller with a nasty bite.
Next up, ‘Smash It’ still holds onto the merciless setting of its predecessor, but also offers something completely different. With a bristling rhythm that steps its way into a haunting crescendo, Stealth uses this break to highlight the track’s imposing detail; it trickles, floods and then the dam breaks due to the build up’s audible weight. Progressing deeper into the mix, the track is underpinned by quaking sub bass. An insistent kick and snap of drums merges against steeply elevating note loops, laying out Stealth’s finely combed conundrum of complex yet hard hitting composition. Both ‘Homage’ and ‘Smash It’ receive the innovative-stamp of approval, playing on more contemporary elements but also delving deep into the 90s, promising both tracks remain timeless.
Stealth is pushing his influence into every corner, with his late night vibes commanding even the hardest of crowds. So, yet again, it’s time to get with the ProgRAM, and succumb to one of the scene’s biggest contenders.
