Regardless of one’s penchant for sweater weather and pie, the end of summer is always a bit of a downer. In Winnipeg, this sentiment rings particularly true. With the change in seasons those of us in the great white north must surrender to a drop in temperature of 60ºC when comparing it to the summer and the mere thought of winter, for me anyway, can be a bit depressing. With that in mind, any reason to clench onto sunny days and sweaty nights becomes not only acceptable, but necessary.

The legendary Toolroom Records have made it their business it seems, to capture the essence of summer with their massive compilations. Their latest, an homage to the Ibiza clubbing season is yet another fine example. Within it, 46 tracks soundtrack memories of poolside bliss, sandy radiance and dance floor euphoria.

We’ll start then with a Manalogue exclusive. PIEM and YAMIL‘s “Breath” while laid back, is a track that would be suitable for any setting on the white isle. Warmth radiates from the opening kicks to the subtle key stabs – all complimented with vocals that crave a sticky, sweaty embrace.

Funky House a go go as German producer, Dinks, gets down with a glittering rework of ‘ Street Player ‘ by Chicago. You’ll more than likely recognize the tune from when it was sampled by, The Bucketheads with their 90’s hit ‘ The Bomb ‘. Dinks takes up the reigns now though merging the two and breathing new life into them both, dishing out some full on party flavour!

SPOOKZ- BRITISH ARE READY REMIXES [LOW PITCHED RECORDS]

There’s many remixes of ‘ Seven Nation Army ‘ by, The White Stripes,  floating around the interweb but, Jay C and Scot Mochan just couldn’t find one that worked for them, so they came up with their own nifty re-fix. It’s jackin’ House music all the way with the original woven in with pure precision for maximum effect. Classy work indeed!

Hit play on this Deep House heater and swore we were listening to Prince singing over the beats, as it happens its Kaba Jones, what an amazing voice!!! On point beats from NODM who has been signed by Nightprowl for a concept album, this is certainly a tastemaker for that LP and has us hankering for more. Meat Katie is back with his ever excellent ‘ Lowering The Tone ‘ podcast. The first hour sees him take a full on stance with his choice of music dropping in a few LOT49 exclusives. The next hour and a half is joyfully filled with an interview with Tech House guru, Ben Coda. They share a few beverages in Meat Katie’s front room and discuss production, Djing, f**king up, being in a band, social media, festivals, getting wasted and a time capsule. A very enjoyable listen indeed!

Wesbeanz is a dude we’ve featured on the ward a couple of times now. He has smooth touch to much of the work he creates, whether it’s producing Liquid Drum n Bass or mixing some chilled soulful grooves Wesbeanz knows how to deliver music that’s all rich and velvety.

This remix however of ‘ Fasten Your Seatbelts ‘ by Pendulum and The Freestylers shows the more heavy hitting side of the Wesbeanz coin. There’s no relaxing to be done while this mayhem making Midtempo monster is being spun! It’s grimy and filthy at it’s peak resulting in some jaw dropping drops! Immense work from Mr Beanz!
