Nu Jazz Sound Experiment vol 07 | Carroponte with Parov Stelar
When Italy’s Menazone was asked to open for uber producer Parov Stelar, he was just a bit excited! His manager requested he played a jazzy, deep house dj set and here’s what he came up with. Indulging in Nu jazz and house jazz music since the big explosion of the scene, he was happy to oblige. Starting from Todd Terje, going up with a rediscovered Tim Deluxe track, following with Saint Germain and flying over some nu disco and original house tracks through Le Knight Club, Atjazz, United Future Organization and Dj Spinna. Barbatuques – Baiana – (Clozee Remix) – Friskie Business Edit
L.A based, Friskie Business, has been spinning tunes and creating tracks since the late 90’s and, when it’s on, you can find him at Burning Man on the ‘Charlie the Unicorn’ art car, where he takes a regular spot behind the decks to deliver heaps of Funk for the party hungry burners to get down to.
One track that we’re very sure would have fitted in perfectly there this year, is his incredible edit of a remix by Clozee of ‘Baiana’ by, Barbatuques. Friskie is a huge admirer of the original and when the chance came around where he could put his spin on it, so he could drop it in his sets, he jumped on it! Where so pleased he did because the outcome of this tribal influenced Funky Breaks edit is a spine tingling piece of genius. Sample and see!
This isn’t the newest tune from Friskie Business, but it had to shared, simple as that really. Hit the links below to find even more of his music.

Kid Kenobi – 20 Years a Kid The Mixtapes Volume 1 (1996 – 1998)
Welcome to the first installment of my ’20 Years a Kid’ mixtape series! This first mix covers the years from 1996 to 1998 when I first started DJing in Sydney (and long before most people in Australia had ever heard of me). This first mix captures some of the tracks I was playing back then: hip hop, big beat, and early breaks. ‘Breaks’ wasn’t actually a genre yet in 1996 and you had to dig pretty hard (at your local record store) to find a good breakbeat sounding record. But that’s what made it so exciting, the ‘discovery’. I’m sure there’s a tonne of tunes I’ve forgotten on here (and there were some I left off as they didn’t quite work in the mix) but the essence of what I did back then is here, including the last track ‘Papua New Guinea’ which I’d drop last EVERY time I DJ’d.
Anyway, I hope you dig the mix! Big love and welcome to my 20 year flashback! – Kid Kenobi
