What ever happened to Chris Carter ?

Musician, Producer and DJ, Chris Carter learnt his engineering skills whilst at the legendary ON U SOUND working with the likes of Adrian Sherwood, Little Axe, Asian Dub Foundation, Audio Active and Bim Sherman. Since starting to produce his own music in 1997, he has had a steady stream of releases on a number UK based breaks labels. Jointly responsible (with BLIM) for one of the break scene`s biggest vocal tracks (as Kasha on U, featuring Shara Nelson) he has since had releases on TCR, Botchit + Scarper, Forged, En:Vision, Secret Agent and Track Records amongst others, earning him a reputation as a master of well-crafted dancefloor tunes.

His tracks have been included on compilations such as the Botchit Breaks albums, Modernizm mixed by BLIM, Nu Breed mixed by Lee Burridge, Y4K mixed by Koma&Bones, TCR50, Tribalizm mixed by Rennie Pilgrem and Meat Katie`s Bedrock Breaks. In 2004 a mix CD of his own, Apply The Breaks was released on Botchit, showcasing upcoming material drawn only from that label.

Remix work includes tracks for Forged, Botchit, Cup of Chi, En:Vision, Passenger and most recently as Roxiller on Sober Records.

In 2005 he has co-established the Record Records label, intended as as outlet for his own material, as well as Roxiller – his joint studio project with JHz – and other future collaborations.

Currently Chris Carter is a freelance Music Technology Lecturer, Tutor at Point Blank, Rose Bruford College and Studio 3 Arts.

One of the true orginals in the Breaks scene has to be Aquasky. Originating through the Drum and Bass scene in the late 90′s Aquasky caught onto the new trend at the time, Nuskool Breaks. The final product of Glitch Hop Community’s very first remix contest for MC2 – Wesh  Up has finally arrived!
The track was released in 2013 on ‘Life’s A Glitch Volume 3′ compilation and GHC put it up to be remixed giving talented producers a chance to twist and glitch it anyway they wanted.

The best 3 remixes from the contest made their way to the EP, Synergy, LxOx and One Hand Clap and to stir things up a notch 3 well known awesome artists Staunch, CloZee and Lokid were asked to do their own unique versions of this hit for the remix album.
So here you can find 6 incredible remixes, the guys took the original and turned it upside down and inside out, took it to pieces and put it back together in a way nobody would’ve thought and to make sure these remixes bang and sound neat on all sounds systems AMB brought his ‘A’ game mastering them all.

Now if you thought it couldn’t get any funkier than that… Wesh Up! It just did!

Opening the Backdraft remix EP, we’ve got a big rework of 'You Don't Know Me' by Fireteam.

Going straight in with some hard breaks and a guttural bass, Fireteam use their drum and bass sensibilities to keep it pumping Australian Bass and Trap music producer, Spenda C takes on the “Wanna Do” remix featuring MC-ing from Sporty O.

He gets right into it with some dirty bass, groovy claps and fat drops. Cleverly chopping up the vocal Spenda adds a little bit of southern flavour. Next up we’ve got another great remix of “You Don’t Know Me” coming this time from previously named High Rankin now, Rain City Riot, who has prior releases on Defected and Toolroom. Starting off with a chilled rhythm and some soft swelling synths he quickly turns it into a sentimental, pulsing deep track with extra light on KT Forrester’s serene vocal. Finishing up this release we’ve got Backdraft’s 12” versions of “You Don’t Know Me” and “Wanna Do”. The Manchester based bass veterans giving you all the bass and breaks you can handle once again.

Here’s some rather lovely bubbling house music on the garage tip from STE E, released by the indomitable, Domino Effect Records. The Leeds-based producer tapped the sultry vocal talents of ERIKA BURTONWOOD for the a-side, which hits all the marks: rich bassline, key stabs, and of course some sexy vocals.

The single gets some proper remix treatment too. Label founders S. JAY & OSTERTAG (Sam Jay and Nick Ostertag) rub out the polish of the original, pitching the vocals down while simultaneously pounding the kicks subtly deeper.

ANIMIST rolls out the garage vibes with a grinding bassline in his remix…

…While Kane KANE TOWNY buffs the sheen for what could be the club anthem of the summer.

The aptly titled the Invade EP gets rounded out with another pair of originals from Ste E. “Feed You” is another garage stomper and the re-release of “Flirtin’” goes deep in all the right places, paired nicely with more key stabs and a minimal vocal sample.
