In case you missed it, All 9 tracks are now available for free download!

Three. It’s the magic number.
And B-Side, Detta and Ghetto Funk are going to prove it to us. Apparently we have three guess before they chop us into bits….bit harsh but here goes….. by juggling three lilly livered Llamas? “Nope!” Shouts B-Side as he snaps on a pair latex gloves with the efficiency of a surgeon and selects an axe from the garage wall. Bugger. Ok. Ummmm, how about wrestling three frankly fearless foxes? “Noooo!” sing-songs Detta as he takes the axe from B-Side and swooshes it around a bit whilst Ghetto Funk calmly lays out a roll of PVC and puts on a Huey Lewis CD. Crikey, these three mean business, might have been slightly too flippant with our first two answers…..could they be sending the three Kardashian sisters round to smash my place up, shit in a box, wear kiss make up, strain urine through tights, tell bawdy jokes and regale me with tall tales of gay sailors? WAIT! That wasn’t an answer! I was just thinking aloud! Damn! Hang on, look at the calendar….Hey, are you guys releasing three EP’s in three weeks of three tracks each starting on the third day of the third week of the third month of this very fine year? Their faces have dropped and amongst much mumbling and grumbling B-Side’s putting the axe back on the wall, Detta’s rolling up the PVC and Ghetto Funk is checking their cufflinks and throwing down a massive Huey REWIND!

That’s the power of love! Wait, that’s the power of three! It still is the magic number! Phew!

FUNK D’VOID was easily the highlight of last year’s Manitoba Electronic Music Exhibition (MEME). His powerhouse set of some sort of bass and techno hybrid blew apart the outdoor stage at The Cube in downtown Winnipeg. It wouldn’t be an understatement to say that every single person who witnessed the free show left with their jaws on the floor. This was easily the best dj set I’ve ever heard/seen. Many in attendance that summer evening would echo this sentiment, including some of the PK Sound techs I spoke to after the show.

The Memetic crew is bringing him back for a show at The Pyramid Cabaret this Saturday and while the venue doesn’t sport a PK rig, it’s arguably the best sounding venue in the city. To be frank, shit’s gonna get wild.

Saturday, June 7
The Pyramid Cabaret (176 Fort Street)

Hello swingers and swingettes!! !

I’ve got a speakeasy full of of neo-burlesque divas, banging blues berzerkas, and sexy screen sirens to report upon and bring freshly swinging into your world. From the bassline drive of the Dutty Moonshakers, Vintage at Voltage, Flatcapped Farmers, to more free tunes than you can drop a piano on, let’s swing into the future with a dance from the past…

Free Music Swing Hop Don’t Stop – Speakeasy Vol. 3 – Compiled by Don Mescal Top of the class has to go to this free compilation from Don Mescal and the Montreal Speakeasy crew. There’s too many to mention on this one, try C@ In The H@, Menage Quad, JPod, Smokey Joe and the Kid and many, many more. Best of all it’s totally FREE so, quite simply get downloading  here and dive on in!

Loving this funking up of Etta James’ soulful singing style by Copycat. Available for a limited time from his bandcamp.

Big up to Sammy Senior for this smashing remix which will be doing plenty of damage at dancefloors this summer.

Deladap are grooving along nicely on this choice freebie:

Sound Assembly’s Sally Bloomer teamed up with Cut La Roc for this release. They’ve nicely decided to give the Rory Hoy remix away:

Algorythmik have very kindly decided to give away their latest EP from their facebook. A nice mix of funk, electro and big beats going on here:

Lamuzgueule have a new album coming up right now, and in preparation have kindly offered these freebies from their track with Bart & Baker:

Minimatic have been getting busy on this piano based slice of swinging ragtime:

FOR THE REST OF THIS POST CLICK READ MORE!!!

It’s great to have Francis Red back with this great swing banger:

Neki Stranac has been mixing balkan flavours with the moombahton sound. Quality bass bothering business.

This has been out for a bit but I’ve just come across it from Gramophonedzie. It’s got a nice house tempo with a bluesy style riff and vocals.

The Jenova Collective have been looking less far back in time for this ghetto funk style remix of Parliament:

Ahead of their first EP which is coming out on June 15th Captain Flatcap have put together this tasty slice of swinging whomp. Get it from Jack The Cad’s blog here.

Nice piece of uptempo swing from Frizzo:

What’s not to like about the retro sounding funk of Cee-Roo?

Defunk has been adding the bass n glitch to this 60′s classic. It never sounded like this before!

Swinging, oriental, and maybe a little bit odd. The Swingbot are back…

Nice to hear a new version of Singing In The Rain from Swing-Thru:

And this…

Fancy hearing a well put together interview with Molotov Jukebox? Check this out:

There’s no download on this one, but I just wanted to add in the rather great live sounds of the Electronic Swing Orchestra:

New Releases Dutty Moonshine – Rum Runners LP It’s great that Dutty Moonshine have managed to release their debut album after numerous strong EP’s and releases up until now. Although you can still hear little snippets of swing thrown in, the Dutty boys have definitely headed down the path marked bass because this release has more in common with the ghetto funk crew than the electro swingers. Recommended.

Vintage Voltage: The Sounds of Trapeze, Vol.1 Not long ago I mentioned in a post that someone had said not much was going with electro swing in San Francisco. It turns out that this was totally inaccurate because Delachaux has been in touch saying that San Francisco has been rocking the swing sound for a long time with their infamous Trapeze parties. They’ve now gone one better and released a cracking compilation of banging swingers on DirtyVolt Records featuring amongst others Dutty Moonshine, Bart & Baker, Defunk and Mr Jennings. It’s only $6 from bandcamp.

Gypsy Fever – Monkey Records Full marks to Monkey Records for bringing out a great compilation featuring all of the New Zealand and Australian eastern european and balkan influenced bands. If you like your gypsy flavoured music this is a must. Available for only 8 euros from bandcamp.

Niko Ne Zna – Renegade Brass Bandits If you like the sound of that last one check out this album which is rocking the brass, balkan and gypsy sound. Great accomplished musicianship and live grooves. Get it from bandcamp.

Swing Republic – The Return Of Electro Swing Republic EP Denmark’s Per Ebdrup is back with a new EP on Freshly Squeezed in advance of his bands new album. Featuring four jazzy and laid back tracks with the vocal talents of Billie Holiday, Blind Willie McTell, The Mills Brothers and The Boswell Sisters.

Bart & Baker feat Kitten On The Keys – Whoopee If you want a polished slice of swing and pop then look no further than another slick release from Bart & Baker. Buy from Juno.

Electro Blues – Vol 2 Sampler (Vinyl Only) Freshly Squeezed have brought out a vinyl only sampler for their upcoming Electro Blues Vol 2 compilation. It features the cracking Work Song by Cee Roo, Bobby C Sound TV and Ecklectic Mick. Available from here.

DJ Mixes If you like your swing with a heavy handful of bass then check out Wolfies latest mixtape…

Nice to see everyone’s favourite hooker is back swinging again…

That’s it. See you in a month! If you’ve got anything you’d like included in future roundups hit me up on soundcloud.

Check Out The Technique E.P. by DJ DSK & Gobshite

The duo comes back with another solid release that was amazingly produced in Cambodia and China with a practically non-existent budget. Subject matters and music are formed from the pair’s unique surroundings in Asia and also influenced from growing up in the UK around Leicester and Southampton. Subject matter varies from forgotten hip-hop elements, the paradox of paradise and poverty existing alongside each other and venting of modern life’s ridiculous values.

Out 090614 –Pre Order Here : http://www.smarturl.it/ChrisSUIllusion

Scorching the scene with the label’s firebrand debut late last year, Chris.SU’s FATE imprint returns! Double the density, double the destiny… With these four massive cuts, FATE Recordings have the future of drum & bass in the palm of their hands.

Three originals, one instrumental: the Hungarian hero – who’s slapped us into submission for many years on labels such as Mainframe, Bad Taste, Subtitles and Spearhead – has teamed up with some of the most respected individuals possible to create something truly special. Be under no illusions: this is big!

We launch with the breath-taking title track. Shimmering with the smouldering soul of MC Fedora (who last fronted with Chris.SU on last year’s massive ‘Guardian Angel’) and the golden tones of the legendary Stamina MC, it’s a subversive showstopper that not only drives any crowd deep into a trance-like state with its rushy synths and slippery basses… It also showcases some the best vocal skills we’ve ever heard from an MC partnership. Genuine lyrics, bona fide harmonies, serious skills. Drop it and watch your floor melt.

Next up: ‘Above Earth’. Here we find Chris teaming up with long-term partners in grime State Of Mind. Their complementary styles and signatures already more than established, this is a chop-busting lesson in undiluted heavyweight sickness. Pneumatic steppy riddims, savage textures and tears and an overall finish that’s rougher than a sandpaper massage, it’s devilishly dirty!

Finally we hit ‘Stereotype’. A track that belies and defies its pigeonhole moniker, this creative fusion between Chris and fellow Hungarian troupe Spinline has resulted in a purring, space-bound roller that oozes metallic menace while remaining deep, driving and understated.

Complete with an instrumental version of ‘Illusion Of Choice’, this really is a massive EP that will resonate with all corners of the drum & bass floor. We’ve said it before, we’ll say it now and we’ll say it in the future, too: It’s time to start believing in FATE.

This weeks classic Throw Back mix is from none other than the Plump DJ’s. Now I was going to post the awesome Elastic Breaks mix they did for Mixmag but I’m sure everyone has heard that a million times (quite rightly so).
