It’s been absolutely ages since I’ve put together a weekend mix selection box and as I’m off to party in field this weekend, I thought what better time to bring you one. As always there’s a range of different styles in hope that there’s a little something for everyone, so you can expect to hear Disco, Funk, Soul, Funky Breaks, Progressive House, Afro House, Breaks n Bass and Jungle from a number of recognisable names.

Dj XS always delivers great mixes and this 80 minute offering of Funky House and Disco can be used either to warm up your weekend, or wind down after it. There’s some seriously cool stuff going down here!

As we’re huge fans of Shaka Loves You, we’d just like to send our congratulations to them on their recent signing to Finger Lickin’ Records. London based, Jake Cusack, has a large number of hugely enjoyable mixes on his Soundcloud page. There’s a variation of styles which include Deep House, Tech House, Disco, Funk, Soul and this one we’ve got for you, Afro House. This is a 60 minute ride of intoxicating music if ever there was one! There’s so much energy in this mix that it’s impossible to not to want to get up and move! Think warm summers evening, the suns just gone down and it’s time to start the party proper, that’s when you turn to this party piece.

It’s fair to say that Sychosis was pretty buzzin’ when he got the call from, Electric Daisy Carnival, asking him to come and drop some tunes at their Las Vegas event. It’s also fair to say that all the positive energy he gained from getting the call was put to great use as you’re gonna hear in his mighty Bass and Breaks set that was recorded from the event. It’s also, also fair to say, he smashed it!

The last two mixes in this post are a strictly Jungle affair and will add the fuel to really get you’re weekend going. They come from The Freestylers and Deekline, who both played at, Jungle Mania, in Brighton not too long ago. The Freestylers mix was dropped just before the event and features the lyrical precision of, Navigator. Deekline’s heavy mix was recorded on the night and with names like this dishing out the music, huge things will only ever go down, and they did! Bounce and skank the night away with just under two hours of intensely energetic music.

WBBL has been tirelessly perfecting a whole bunch of new and original tunes in his studio for a while now and the first of those new tracks have surfaced on his 3 track EP ‘Get Back‘. The hard work has clearly paid off and the bass wobble we come to expect from him is evident throughout the EP.

The title track of the EP is where we begin and things kick off in spectacular style with an extremely cool and bassy slice of Glitch Hop. Up next is ‘Toe Tapper‘ which will have you doing more than that, that’s for sure! Fuller, fatter drums that have a real kick with Glitchy tweaks and of course, plenty of bass. ‘Carry On‘ is the last tune and what a dose of happiness this House/Disco groover will inject into your lives! You can always rely on WBBL to deliver the goods and we’re very much looking forward to listening to the rest of the music he’s been working on in the future.

Ok, back to music again, whats your studio process like? Do you all work together in one room or do you email the music to each other?

It all starts with Johnnys idea, beats first and then into the heavy stuff. Normally we meet in the studio, were lucky to live real close so it’s easy. Johnny has the studio setup for adding drums, vocals and keys.
Which one is better? Star wars or Star trek and why?

As Stormtroopers of Love, gotta be Wars.
Can you tell us a crazy story about a show you have played?

Hahaha, suppose one of our shows at Bennicassim 2015. Last night of the festival and we’re over with the guys from Trenchtown. The heat was killer but we were having great fun. Were on about 2am and blasting it out. Boss man for the place comes towards us midset, all our hands are full so he’s pouring a bottle of Malibu into our mouths. Fills us up and heads off.

Here we go once again with another new name to grace the LSM ward. Carlos Rodriguez a.k.a, Bag-O-Beetz, was born in Spain, grew up in Venezuela and now finds himself living in Canada. Throughout his journey he has soaked up many musical influences which include Latin, Reggae, Calypso, Salsa, Soca, Funk, House, Breaks and D n B, which really shines through in the music he makes and selects when DJing.

It’s Reggae where his focus lies with his superb free 5 track EP ‘For The Love Of Dub‘ which was released to celebrate passing the milestone of passing 2,000 followers on Soundcloud. It opens up with ‘Lets Get Ill‘ which offers plenty for the jump up D n B fan. Up next is the ‘Numa Crew vs Hawkeye‘ and the Jungle vibes are strong in this one, as is the soul shaking bassline which needs to be heard! The last 3 tracks ‘Bun Them‘, ‘Inna Mess‘ and ‘Reggae Vigilante‘ are all of the midtempo variety, so expect fierce bass and lashings of Reggae flavourings spread across all of them. Romano Gemini created Nu Blends way back in 2013 and since then he’s gone on to make it a label that’s essential to the Nu-Funk/ Funky Breaks scene.
