‘ Delights ‘ is the new 13 track album from Canadian producer, Defunk, which is released on, Westwood Recordings. It’s an album that sees Defunk venture into new territories as he takes his love of Midtempo and Glitch Hop sounds and fuses it with some proper old skool Funk and Soul and the results are incredible! Defunk has also invited a few special guest to work with him on this album with the Ragga Twins, Sam Klass, Marshall Mcgee and the Raya Brass Band being just a few. Get on it ladies and gents!

DJOKO: CERTIFIED EP [DOMINO EFFECT RECORDS]

Simply put, Domino Effect has the house / bass game locked down. The label describes their mantra as a label that’s house and garage focused with an emphasis on throwback vibes while pushing new boundaries. This statement couldn’t be more true when applied to their latest release.
Germany’s DJOKO joins the Domino Effect family with a strong six-track EP that includes two originals, as well as remixes from Fabio Lendrum, Ozzis, Karl Lewis Lynch and Ben Bodies Houzey.
Of the Certified EP‘s two originals, “Certified Feelin” digs deep into those round and bouncy garage basslines, paying homage to the imprint’s respect and knowledge of the genre while clearly looking to the future.
The other original, “I Never” is a lesson on house music. Upbeat vocals and playful key stabs are complimented with rich and warm kicks. The track is then wrapped in percussion and basslines that could seemingly keep any dancefloor in perpetual motion.
The remixes on the EP find room to take the originals into other house territories, meandering through bassy, techy and acid-infused pleasantries.

MENDOZA: HOUDINI REMIXES [LOVE & OTHER]

Love & Other‘s reach within the house community keeps expanding. The past two years has seen the label gain support far and wide with their ability to tap into underground vibes. The imprint’s output has, for the most part, fallen somewhere into the realm of house music but their latest release might be a sign that they’re willing to shine light on different colours of the underground spectrum.
Mendoza, the enigmatic singer joins Love & Other with brand new remixes of her eccentric single, “Houdini.” S-Man aka Roger Sanchez takes the original deeper into the club by capitalizing on the quirky vocals and pounding out the kicks.
Already premiered by Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 – veteran British DJ/producer Steve Lawler puts his techy spin on “Houdini” by tweaking out some acid noodlry. Lawler’s edit strips out the vocals almost entirely, relying on stuttering samples that compliment the percussive and dark tones that sound so good at 3:00 am.

Bass Coast is Earth’s finest social experiment
Words almost cannot accurately describe the fiercely boasted and successfully rare beauty that is Bass Coast Music Festival… but I’m going to try any ways. Although I had never been before, I heard many fantastic things about this intimate gathering, but I really had no clue what was in store for myself and fellow enthusiasts flooding the gates on that Friday morning.

The scenery surrounding Nicola Valley’s town of Merritt are very unique to the region. Mountains that resemble melting sandy dunes standing the test of time hugged the festival ground’s edges. A lukewarm clear water stream flowed through the center of the Bass Coast site, which provided a much needed haven for campers enduring the mid day heat. This also was a great place for meeting “the friends you have never met before”, a phrase I use often to reflect the kind nature of the humans I meet on my festival circuit journey. Smiles for miles, free hugs, and grooving bodies infected the whole area. All the blood, sweat, and tears put into this festival by staff, volunteers, artists and attendees proved how flawlessly creative we can be when we come together. This weekend was nothing short of a beautifully successful social experiment.

A quaint cabana style stage, respectively called The Cafe, was churning out some of the most varied enjoyable underground music I heard all weekend complete with an organic full service cafe. There was so much to do and see, so I did not spend a whole lot of time here, but the atmosphere was blessed all weekend by Michael Red, Nathan Zahn, An-Ten-Nae, and more.
