MENDOZA: HOUDINI REMIXES [LOVE & OTHER]
Love & Other‘s reach within the house community keeps expanding. The past two years has seen the label gain support far and wide with their ability to tap into underground vibes. The imprint’s output has, for the most part, fallen somewhere into the realm of house music but their latest release might be a sign that they’re willing to shine light on different colours of the underground spectrum.
Mendoza, the enigmatic singer joins Love & Other with brand new remixes of her eccentric single, “Houdini.” S-Man aka Roger Sanchez takes the original deeper into the club by capitalizing on the quirky vocals and pounding out the kicks.
Already premiered by Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 – veteran British DJ/producer Steve Lawler puts his techy spin on “Houdini” by tweaking out some acid noodlry. Lawler’s edit strips out the vocals almost entirely, relying on stuttering samples that compliment the percussive and dark tones that sound so good at 3:00 am.
