Words almost cannot accurately describe the fiercely boasted and successfully rare beauty that is Bass Coast Music Festival… but I’m going to try any ways. Although I had never been before, I heard many fantastic things about this intimate gathering, but I really had no clue what was in store for myself and fellow enthusiasts flooding the gates on that Friday morning.

The scenery surrounding Nicola Valley’s town of Merritt are very unique to the region. Mountains that resemble melting sandy dunes standing the test of time hugged the festival ground’s edges. A lukewarm clear water stream flowed through the center of the Bass Coast site, which provided a much needed haven for campers enduring the mid day heat. This also was a great place for meeting “the friends you have never met before”, a phrase I use often to reflect the kind nature of the humans I meet on my festival circuit journey. Smiles for miles, free hugs, and grooving bodies infected the whole area. All the blood, sweat, and tears put into this festival by staff, volunteers, artists and attendees proved how flawlessly creative we can be when we come together. This weekend was nothing short of a beautifully successful social experiment.

A quaint cabana style stage, respectively called The Cafe, was churning out some of the most varied enjoyable underground music I heard all weekend complete with an organic full service cafe. There was so much to do and see, so I did not spend a whole lot of time here, but the atmosphere was blessed all weekend by Michael Red, Nathan ZahnAn-Ten-Nae, and more.
