Spartaque - Undine

Toolroom have long been a top-tier label in the dance music world, and recently they’ve been focused on returning to their roots. If the Rhythm Distrikt 09 release is any indication, I definitely like where they’re going. It features 10 tracks from 10 artists, each of which provides some no-nonsense techno for the dance floor.

Leading the charge with “This Time It’s For Real” from one of my go-to producers of the moment. Ukraine’s Skober brings us a jacky and driving track, with a siren-like vocal complimenting a plethora of rhythmic sounds.

Ron Costa’s “Owl Jolson” (with a clever pun in the title) offers a slightly more chilled take on rhythmic techno, with a muted synth line that oozes cool. This one has already made it in to my podcast (AOWS Episode 038 airing this week).

Canadian Jayforce makes his Toolroom debut with this hypnotic sounding “What”, combining swirly synths with a vocal stab that makes it sound almost like a video game.

Egoism also provide a great tune here, with the snare drum teases in their tune “Jack”. Some great rhythm to play with layered in a DJ set.

The full track list is below, featuring these along with 6 more choice cuts.

1. Skober – This Time It’s For Real
2. Ron Costa – Owl Jolson
3. Joe Blake – Searching
4. The YellowHeads – Whipsers
5. Stefano Kosa – The Cave
6. Spartaque – Undine
7. Oscar L – Switch On The Love
8. Deas – Mirage
9. Egoism – Jack
10. Jayforce – What
