With several new tunes in the pipeline, German producer, Forrest Funk, is here to keep us entertained with this sublime mashup of his. He’s blended Fort Knox Five‘s ‘Reach’ with ‘Real Hip Hop’ by Das EFX and the result is a very tasty and horn heavy slab of funky Hip Hop that you’ll soon find you need in your possession!

The mashup was created so that it could feature on Forrest Funk’s ‘BAAANG’ mix he dropped a couple of weeks ago. It kicks off on real smooth note but soon gets going with a bevy of bangers to make your party jump. Give it a spin below.

Mr Joseph brings his multiple musical influences and idiosyncratic style to a must have debut album of dazzling DnB on Liquid V. The variety is equal to the sheer quality of sound on ‘Inner Haze’. The collaborations are of a high standard too. Joining Mr Joseph on this musical peregrination are Youngman, Edward Oberon, T.R.A.C., Deeizm, Kate White, Wednesday Amelia, Identified and Andy Skope. as for the tracks, well, they truly speak for themselves. From lush soulful liquid DnB to tougher excursions into 174BPm with a Hip Hop edge. When the DnB rewards ceremonies do the rounds at the end of 2017, this LP will be a definite contender for best album

Stalwart of the breakbeat scene, Cakeboy has been releasing big and bouncy tunes for 15 years, with a dollop of good humour and with his tongue firmly in his cheek. – one of my all-time favourite album titles was “Gateau Blaster” – genius!

But beyond the humour and half-baked culinary puns lie some cracking tunes, and the two new tracks on the Weapons EP are no exception. First up, at a storming 135 BPM is “Rockin the Retro”. A rasping bassline brings the bounce to the crisp breakbeat and the ascending pitch of the vocal sample in the breakdown is particularly pleasing. No less floor- friendly  is the relatively pedestrian title track. The beats are supplemented nicely with the use of a variety of kits and the simple synth and vocal  samples make sure this is one catchy tune. With this release Cakeboy has continued to prove that there’s more to this DJ / Producer than just a wry sense of humour, and it should be in every right-minded DJs arsenal this new year.

Pecoe is one of these dudes who doesn’t do it for the love of money, he does it all for the love of music. We’ve not seen him on the ward since his contribution to our ‘Advent Calendar 2017′, but he’s back with a bang with this remix of ‘For The Love Of Money’ by, The O’Jays. Classic funky Breaks business as standard from Mr Pecoe!

Proudly hailing from a county that is so backward most people’s family trees look more like tumbleweeds. A thoroughbred trio of dedicated Cornish idiots have been quietly paving the musical way for their stalwart countryside kinsmen. Like the blind leading the blind, the Freerange Djs have embarked on a chaotic adventure that is slowly leading to what must be one of the music industries most unorganised rises to fame on record. That said, their unorthodox methods have picked them up some noteworthy accolades along the way including 2 Mixmag ‘Tune Of The Month’s, releases on prestigious labels such as Skint Records and 470 real Twitter followers.

The Freerange Djs have won lots of awards that are not really worth mentioning and narrowly missed out on some good ones too. With remix work for the mighty Stanton Warriors set for release imminently as well as a delightful summer festival season booked in including their favorites Glastonbury and Boomtown Fair, its looking like these modest idiots could be sailing the good ship Breakbeat at full speed towards some very prosperous rocks in the not too distant future……
