We’re big fans of Funk Hunk’s music here at LSM and one of his fairly recent free tunes, this re-edit of Soulwax’s ‘Essential To Find Out How’ is one that’s getting us all hot under the collar. Steve Jeffery aka Pimpsoul is a one man band, producer and DJ who had a heavy influence in the early Nufunk scene (before it became Ghetto Funk). He has worked in collaborations with Bomb Strikes label owner Mooqee gaining a number one in the Beatport Hip Hop charts and a clever YouTube hit along side DJP for their take on Duck Sauce’s Barbara Streisand.

This mix is from the Summer of 2009 a prime time for the sound of Nufunk which can be heard in this bass heavy party funk set.

The Noisily Festival of Music and Arts is one that I’ve heard plenty about and each and every person that I’ve spoke to about it absolutely loves it there! It’s one I’ve not been to yet but because of the positive words I’ve heard, it’s one that’s top of my list to attend. There’s loads of styles of music on offer and after seeing pictures of it, the festival setting in rural Leicestershire looks beautiful.

With Bass, Glitch, Breaks, House, Psy-Trance and Disco all to be found, Noisily’s mainstay is Progressive Techno and what a helping we have of that for you from the mighty, Neurodriver. He took to the ‘Noisily Stage’ on the Saturday night for the final set of the night and I’m almost certain that all in attendance would have had one of the best 86 minutes of their lives ever! I’ve certainly enjoyed soaking up the spine tingling sounds and for the rest of you that wasn’t there to experience it like me, just press play and then hit the download link to make it yours forever.

The Rumblist returns to Top Drawer Digital to reclaim his throne as the maverick master of experimental breaks with the ‘Broken In Four’ EP ‘Bite The Hand’ starts things off, a fiery clash of dubstep influences and evocative orchestral drops. ‘Do That Shit’ is just as merciless as the previous track with powerhouse oldskool rave synth stabs, jungle breaks and super gritty bass!!!

Luke Mac puts Sasha ‘Out Of Time’ through the jackin’ acid house filter with highly pleasing results!!! We all love the legend, Sasha‘s ‘Out Of Time’ track, another milestone in the veteran DJ/artists’ musical legacy.

We also love what Luke Mac has done with his own personal tribute to this modern classic. Luke reworks ‘Out Of Time’ into a tough blend of Tech House & Acid House with hard hitting drums, plenty of those essential bleeps and squelches plus the inclusion of those dreamy vocals from the original. Judging by the many reports I’ve seen, this years Leopallooza festival in North Cornwall was one very amazing weekend. I didn’t go unfortunately, but the lineup for the ‘Temple Of Boom’ stage in particular, really made me wish I had! The huge lineup featured many regulars to the LSM ward from the Ghetto Funk scene, two of those being, Mr Rich and the Caretaker.

For those turning up to see the duo play, they would have every right to think they would be catching a Ghetto Funk/Funky Breaks set but oh no, not this time around. Mr Rich and the Caretaker gave the temple it’s boom with a 70 minute set that’s rammed full of filthy bass with Swing and Funk woven in throughout. I’m everyone’s bass faces were on full show for this set, so why not give yours a run out by hitting that play button!
