Ghetto Funk Presents: FATHER FUNK (GFP018)

Vinyl Exclusive
Release Date Late March
(VIPs will receive copies on 21st March)

Lost in Michael Jackson’s woodland estate young Will Williamson was a happy soul, breast fed and reared by a family of disco Llamas, he’d canter hither and tither to his heart’s content, chewing on the lush grass and shrubs planted way back in the Motown days.

Until the day the bulldozers arrived to clear the estate and mine the fabled Tree of Soul. Outraged, the Llamas quickly militarised and Will found himself leading the Llama army against the machines. Sadly for Will and the Llamas, they were trained in combat by Bubbles, Michael Jackson’s favourite monkey and could only offer thrown semen and faeces against their metal foe and it was over as soon as it began. But as is the way with super heroes, Will didn’t die. He was spirited away and placed in a montage, where over the proceeding years he grew strong, running along beaches and up and down steps to Bill Conti’s Theme from Rocky.

Father Funk is a superhero. Big with the bass and big with the beats, he’s one of the Ghetto Funk scene’s sharpest up and coming talents.

Ursula 1000 – “Hot”
Omegaman – “big beats meet bad ass bass”
Tonic – “Huge EP”
Mooqee – “will get some plays from me”
William Breaksphere – “lovely stuff, huge bold bass sounds and mental samples”
Stickybuds – “Take 2’s the jam!”
WBBL – “Just too good”
Funk Hunters – “like the vibes”
JFB – “Nice”
Lewd Behaviour – “great beats”
Ed Solo – “They are all good!”
Timothy Wisdom – “I’ll take a second helping of Take 2”
Dutty Moonshine – “yes, Take 2, tune!”
Basement Freaks – “Sounds good”
DubPistols – “Bombs Away”
Funkanomics – “Dope, great work”
B-Side – “Boom!”

Swingamajig 2014 It’s that time of year again and in the UK we’re building up to the biggest electro swing festival going, Birmingham’s Swingamajig. Following off from last years truly stunning event, this year they’re bigger than ever with a really strong lineup including Molotov Jukebox, Electric Swing Circus, The Destroyers, Renegade Brass Band, Fresh Dixie Project, Smokey Joe & the Kid, Sam Green & the Midnight Heist, Jenova Collective, Lunatrix, After Hours Quintet, Temple Funk Collective, loads of DJ’s, swing dancing, lindyhop, circus performers, vintage cinema and much much more. Oh and some chap called DJR…

You can check out the full lineup at the Swingamajig website and tickets are a bargain at only £20 so don’t waste time and get them now!

Free Music Here’s a great remix of Bart & Baker’s Swing Phonmenon – free to download from the Pep’s Show Boys facebook.

JPod getting funky with the Andrews Sisters! Sweet.

Sammy Senior has been bringing his ghetto funk and old style flavour to K7′s Hi De Ho. Recommended.

New from Future Swing Stories…

Johnny Lectro has been adding delicious blues licks to a grooving 130bpm beat. Nice.

Nuno Endo has stuck up a new edit of Ella Fitzgerald’s Teardrops From My Eyes:

FOR THE REST OF THIS POST CLICK READ MORE!!!

The C@ In The H@ has been tweaking the biggest tune on the planet at the mo:

Here’s some crisp reggae style vocals mixed with an old style swing-hop beat. Works really well.

Dutty Moonshine have been getting busy on Slamboree’s full on track Death Of A Festival. Peak time party banger!

Not strictly swing this, but I’m always a sucker for the Hot 8 Brass Band and if they want to give away free tunes why should I argue?

New Releases Vintage Remix Allstars – The Punk Panther It’s always nice to see a new record label on the block and so we welcome Vintage Remix Records with their first release – The Punk Panther. Oh and it’s rather good! Available to buy from Juno.

Electric Swing Circus – Bella Belle Remixes There was a great standard of remixes for this competition and the winners have now been released on Ragtime Records. They’re all good so check out which ones you like and download them now from Juno.

Bart & Baker… on an umbrella! Random post of the week goes to Bart & Baker. They’ve done a remix of Real Tuesday Meld and released it on an umbrella! Confused much? Yep me too. Go here to unravel the strangeness.
Perhaps more relevantly Bart & Baker also have a 30 track double album on the way with lots of new original stuff and remixes.

DJ Mixes Been enjoying this blues and ghetto funk set from Mike Jackson. Good stuff mister!

Cab Canavaral has been getting clever adding live saxophone to his DJ sets:

Spencer C from San Francisco dropped me this mix with plenty of well mixed classic tunes. He says that the local scene for Electro Swing is non-existent – well you know what that means – start your own night! It’s the best way to get exposure and spread the love!

That’s it for this week. If you’ve got anything you’d like included in future roundups hit me up on soundcloud. Keep it swing. Laters!

We are back once again with another fresh and exclusive mix from the deadliest duo in breaks, 7DB aka Se7en Deadly Breaks. After a nod to the past with their last mix, A Tribute To Hybrid, they have set their sites clearly on the future with this forward thinking mix of all things breaks and bass. Along with a bass heavy set of the latest sounds they have signed up the talents of  MC crew Nu Jam, consisting of Mc Midas & Jay MC. After first hearing MC Midas & Jay MC along with the rest of NU J.A.M on the breakbeat/garage track “

” by Deekline and Ed solo, the 7DB guys loved the vibes and wanted to incorporate that style into a dj mix. Elle,a newer member of the Nu Jam family, also lends her formidable vocal talents to the mix set. It really gives another dimension to the set with Nu Jam complimenting the music and laying down their slick flows amongst the bass and beats. Never taking over but really merging with the sounds. This is the cutting edge in breakbeat sounds at the moment with many of these tracks crossing over into the realms of bass music, house and garage. Just as the music was meant to be from the start. A melting pot of influences and ideas all laced with that one special ingredient. BREAKBEATS!

1. Deekline – Deepa. 2. Lady Chann feat Adiyam – Darkness (RackNRuin Remix.) 3. Mobin Master vs Tate Strauss vs Fantomen – You & I (Stanton Warriors Remix.) 4. TC – Get down low (ShockOne Remix.) 5.
