Elektrofant ‘Monica’ Premiere Stream

We would like to say a very special thanks to Beatservice for letting us host the exclusive first play stream of ‘Monica’ from Elektrofant’s ‘1992’ LP. We previously reviewed this excellent LP here suffice to say that it perfectly captures the spirit of one of the best years of dance music ever.
‘Monica’ is a prime example of what’s to love about this album. Prepare to be taken back to the era of groups and artists like Altern 8, SL2 & Inner City, Take in the rolling soundtrack of Detroit Techno synths and raw UK style breakbeats interspersed with Todd Terry circa 92′ 4×4 kicks and 303 acid stabs. Be sure to check out the rest of the LP too, get it from Beatport, Traxsource, iTunes & Spotify

Gorilla Complex Exclusive Interview & New SIngle Premiere Stream

We are very pleased to share an exclusive interview with Gorilla Complex and a premiere stream of his awesome new track ‘Welcome To The Bass Jungle’, read on to learn more about his animalistic style of bass music….
Tell me a little about Gorilla Complex?
Gorilla Complex is a well thought out project. The dance floor has always seemed like an animalistic place to me, and as I wanted to create heavy bass music, a gorilla seemed to fit with the big, strong nature of the sound.
All my tracks contain elements based around this animalistic theme. The slightly dark and evil tone is consistent throughout and the animal theme is also represented in the artwork and track names. I call it ‘Animalistic Bass Music’.
How would you describe your production style?
I barely use synths now. Over the years, I have built up a big sample library. I mess with audio FX and automate pretty much every parameter until it sounds interesting. I also record all my own vocals and re-pitch them with Melodyne. After every tune,
I add the new sounds to my sample library to re-use in the future. So it’s an ever-growing palette to work from. I’ve played guitar for years, which helps with the melodies and chord structures as well.
Who were your major influences in terms of music production?
Noisia are probably the artist that I aspire to the most. The Prodigy are up there as well. These guys are legends, innovators and unique in many ways. You don’t get many artists with their credibility and longevity.
What does the future hold for you?
I don’t want to conform to a genre, but the next 3 or 4 releases are all Bass House. I am also working on a few Trap and Drum & Bass tunes with some great vocalists as well.
I want to create some crazy animal themed live shows as well at some point. Imagine a nightclub with everyone dressed up as animals. Could get some inflatable bananas to throw out into the crowd as well!
If you could work on a track with anyone from now or way back when, who would it be?
Loads of people come to mind. Maybe Sampha or Yukimi Nagano, the singer from Little Dragon. These two have such interesting voices and so much character. I think we could make something really unique. Or Foreign Beggars because those guys always deliver.
And if you could remix any tune of your choice, which one would you choose and why?
Jungle book or Lion King – I would do it but it wouldn’t stay on Soundcloud for long with their tight copyright laws, unfortunately.
Are there any unfulfilled goals or aspirations of yours musically?
I’m also hoping to release on Black Butter or MTA records in the future and I’m hoping to get some support from UKF. I’m a big fan of theirs so hopefully, I can make this happen.
Could you offer a bit of advice for an up and coming producer?
Define your style, your purpose and find a way to be unique. And also make sure you can summarise yourself in one sentence. Easier said than done, but if you can do this, you are on the right track.
Any final words?
Welcome to the bass jungle!

Freestyle 4 Funk 5 (Compiled by Timewarp)
Back in 2004, Angelos Stoumpos aka, Timewarp, was hugely influenced and inspired by the Nu-Funk and Dub Electronica sounds that were around. He knew that in his homeland of Greece those styles of music were lacking and knew this had to change, so he went about creating his very own label, Timewarp Music.
From 2004 to the present day, Timewarp Music has grown massively and has released a staggering amount of high quality music. There’s over 500 tracks to be found on the labels Soundcloud page which is enough to keep anyone highly entertained for a very long time. With all these successful releases it might go without saying that Angelos has created one of the go to labels for all things Nu-Funk, Nu-Disco, Dub and Breaks. I’ve dug in to a small portion of what’s available from Timewarp Music and I can assure you that I will be digging a lot deeper in the future.
Should all those words need backing up, check out the fifth compilation album in their ‘Freestyle 4 Funk’ series and you’ll soon see why the label is one you really need to keep tabs on. 16 tracks make up the album that’s features a incredible selection of old, new and unreleased tracks in Downtempo, Dub, Reggae, Nu-Funk, Soul and Breaks styles. The range in styles means there will always be something different around the corner which will have locked on with excitement to see what’s up next. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again “there’s some seriously good albums to have graced the ward this year” and this one from Timewarp Music is right up there with the best of em!

Tigerlight ft. Kathika Rabbit – Don’t Let Go (Love)
Two of the finest female vocalists we’ve come across on our journey through the world of underground music, Tigerlight and Kathika Rabbit, have joined forces in a big way for their new tune ‘Don’t Let Go’. They use a vocal hook from En Vogue’s track of the same name and perform it in spectacular fashion over Drum n Bass production work that was created by Tigerlight, with the assistance of the mighty, High Rankin, so you know this ones gonna drop hard, and it does!
Here, Tigerlight explains all about how this track came about :
“This cover started out as a jam on the piano, just me and some keys and then an idea popped into my head, I knew that Kathika Rabbit would be performing at the same festival I was playing at called Shindig Weekender and thought that it would be amazing to sing in harmony with her and share the stage with her so I put the music together for this track to do initially just as a live collab with her. Shaping it in the studio first I tried it out at as a bassline house/ garage track but it wasn’t vibing so I sped it up to 174 and it clicked. At that point I knew I wanted to collab with a seasoned DnB producer to nail the drop so together with the Drum and Bass years of experience and skills of High Rankin we finished off the track in the studio and the track was ready for live. It went OFF live at the festival and so we knew we had to get the track finished for release so Kathika came to my studio and laid down her harmonies and verse. She’s such a great talent and it was a joy to work with her and High Rankin on this for you gals and guys. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it and of course I have to give a huge shout out to the original QUEENS in En Vogue who released this killer record back in the day… BIG thanks to Ash Pure for creating this original artwork.”
Now you’ve got the lowdown, go and get it!
