Free Music The Electro Vintage Sounds of the Speakeasy Vol. 2 This 40 track compilation has been put together by DJ Eliazar of the Speakeasy Electro Swing crew. All available totally for free this compilation includes the whole range of electro swing, plus electro blues, gospel, and soul. There are tracks from Cheshire, Defunk, Dunklebunt, Swingrowers, Electric Swing Circus, Jenova Collective, Bobby C Sound and many more. It’s great to get a remix of this track because it’s one of those that will happily cross over between the most mainstream party going and a more discerning audience. Plus the original is only about 2 minutes long and so it was always over too quick!

Bit Funk crack’s open The Pharcyde vaults and rework’s Runnin’. Such a tune, I tend to get a bit cranky when people rework the classics, it’s like thinking The Mona Lisa would look better with a moustache and a peekaboo bra (she would). D-Funk has long been a purveyor of fine funky beats and breaks and we here at the Free Breaks Blog have always been more than happy to support the high quality free bootlegs, remixes and mixtapes that he consistently shares with the world. With that being said, when an artist of his caliber drops an EP, you can guarantee a super solid release is on the cards and D-Funks latest, entitled Back In Love does not disappoint.

The four track EP recently released on Grits & Gravy has funk as the main ingredient but as we have come to expect from every tasty treat D-Funk serves up, he has added his own extra special spiciness. Be it a dash of wobble, a hint of b-boy flair, or an extra-large helping of phat beats, he has managed to whip up a seriously delectable dish that is sure to satisfy any insatiable dance floor.

The title tune has an undeniable nu-funk flavour that features zesty horn lines and guitar licks layered with LL Cool J’s ever so recognizable lyrical rap styling’s that when combined, make for a sweet piece of ear candy. Sicker Than You and You Don’t Hear Me again feature samples of some of hip-hops elite, but this time blended to perfection with a tougher ghetto funk edge that gives them a real kick that’s well worth savouring. Hot Heating Up finishes proceedings and gets things sizzling as D-Funk turns up the tempo and takes the Steve Miller Bands Abracadabra, injects a luscious sounding synth bass and mouth watering breakbeat, infused with a plethora of instantly recognizable vocal chops that make for a mega catchy floor burner.
