Swingamajig 2014 It’s that time of year again and in the UK we’re building up to the biggest electro swing festival going, Birmingham’s Swingamajig. Following off from last years truly stunning event, this year they’re bigger than ever with a really strong lineup including Molotov Jukebox, Electric Swing Circus, The Destroyers, Renegade Brass Band, Fresh Dixie Project, Smokey Joe & the Kid, Sam Green & the Midnight Heist, Jenova Collective, Lunatrix, After Hours Quintet, Temple Funk Collective, loads of DJ’s, swing dancing, lindyhop, circus performers, vintage cinema and much much more. Oh and some chap called DJR…

Bart & Baker… on an umbrella! Random post of the week goes to Bart & Baker. They’ve done a remix of Real Tuesday Meld and released it on an umbrella! Confused much? Yep me too. Go here to unravel the strangeness.
Perhaps more relevantly Bart & Baker also have a 30 track double album on the way with lots of new original stuff and remixes.

Electro Swing Roundup

A  little thank you for getting over 75’000 plays on soundcloud, Pugzilla gives a cheeky twist to ‘Benny Sings – Get There’ and is giving it away for free. Pumped for the dancefloor Pug has kicked things up to 128bpm ready to pop the party. Swing a ding ding – this is our kinda thing!!

A bit blown away at HYBRID THEORY‘s latest, out now on Ciao Records. The Four40 Records honcho continues his experiments in bass heavy house, combining a range of influences to bring forth exciting and original productions almost daily. The Dark is no exception – a melting pot of different underground characteristics brought together for any bass head’s sonic delight.

The title track is a percussive shuffler. A bit more 4/4 than 2-step, “The Dark” rumbles like a wonky uncle – a bit creepy but too fun to run away from.

The second track, “All Again,” just might be the favourite (although it really is difficult to pick just one). Here’s another shuffling cut where Hybrid Theory flexes his meaty muscles for some of the cleanest, yet devastating low end.

CROOKERS takes “The Dark” for a heavy romp through a deep cavernous garage. This is a jam that deserves to be played loud, on a proper club system.
