Steyoyoke Recordings has a seemingly unparallelled dedication to underground house music. What’s magical about this is that they do so void of attitude or musical snobbery – the Berlin imprint consistently releases records without any desire to shine a spotlight on music that is truly meant for dim spaces.

Last year Steyoyoke put the finishing touches to their artist roster and the label is now experiencing an ongoing creative continuum, releasing dancefloor art while bringing Steyoyoke to its current state of musical solidarity.

Family Affair Vol.04 is a testament to this by expanding upon their brand of minimalism in two parts. The compilation features nine remixes from within the Steyoyoke family with their artists adding their own personal flavours to some of 2014ʼs biggest tracks. Over the last year or so a new sound has emerged influenced by the likes of Paul Woolford, The Freestylers, Stanton Warriors, Nixon, Mella Dee & others, junglistic breakbeats slowed down to around 125-130BPM, sparse minimal bass soundscapes and atmospheric drops. This new banger from the talented producer Hypho draws on these influences and blends a dark jungle style roller with garage/house beats and bass to createthe weapon of mas bass-truction ‘Special Request’ you can just hear this rocking the clubs at choice venues like Fabric et al and booming out of the cars, sounds of the underground!!!

Hypho- Special Request

One of my favourite’s on the scene right now. Those of you who aren’t familiar with Hiphoppapotamus, no he isn’t a rapping river horse, he doesn’t live in Africa (Although his music is pretty damn tropical) and he’s not extremely aggressive when threatened, at least I don’t think he is, I’ll have to threaten him at Shindig.

He’s a young bearded man from Bristol with a passion for making uptempo, good vibes music. I heard his stuff when I was at Hidden Riddim’s house. I was blown away and demanded my promo’s upfront and on demand. Luckily since then, Tristan has been sending me his music upfront and on demand, I’d happily pay for it, but he’s nice like that.

That’s why I’m writing this post. We post a lot of free music for our beloved followers, but some times I feel it’s appropriate to reward talent, make a donation so their careers in music blossom and we keep getting bangers served! Below are a few examples of Tristan’s aka Hiphoppapotamus’s music. I’m hoping you’ll like it as much as I do and sling him a few bucks for his hard work. I’ve rocked many a party with his music, you should do the same.

This is Nick Thayers new tune called THE STICK UP. He called it ‘The Stick Up’ mainly because the main sample says ‘it’s a stick up’. Fun fact: this tune had a working title of ‘Stick Thayer’, ‘Stick head’, ‘Stick Astley’ and ‘Eat A Bag Of Sticks’.
