Rare Candy ‘Live For The Night’ draws upon the rich tradition of musical and soulful Garage along the lines of MJ Cole, Artful Dodger and other greats, a great song sung fantastically by Gemma Louise with super tight production from Rare Candy  who bring the timeless Garage vibes, melodic soulful keys and shuffling beats, the remixes are excellent too, Tlegato remixes this classy track into a bassy 2 Step roller perfect for the clubs, it gets even better though, for this writer, it has to be Danny Rich’s darker edged remix taking things deeper and weaving the great vocals round a bassline that takes it back to the golden era of classics like ‘Dooms Night’ and ‘I Don’t Smoke’, we do love a bit of breakbeat garage, overall this is an excellent release, a certified anthem for the summer which has gained support on both Rinse & Kiss FM from DJ’s like Mike Delinquent, DJ EZ, Ray Keith, Lennie De Ice and many other luminaries, deserves to be massive and it’s going to be massive!!! Out 08/06/15

Time for my random breaks mix for the day, this time from a Distant Friend, well the unknown artist (to me) Distant Friend. Some quick mixing that’s put together with some well known tracks around at the moment … works pretty good as a mix.

pro.beatport.com/release/knowledg…mixed-ep/1517557

Worldwide Release Date: Tuesday June 2nd, 2015

1. The Boogieman feat. Mr. Lif (Basement Freaks Remix)
2. King of the Road (Qdup Remix)
3. The Boogieman (Basement Freaks Remix Instrumental)
4. King of the Road (Qdup Remix Instrumental)

See-I released their 2014 album “Knowledge Shine Bright” to great reviews in the press and an amazing radio campaign, followed up with national tour dates including the 30th annual Reggae On The River Festival in Humboldt County, CA. The tracks from this album have been sent out to some of the best remixers around the world and the results are just stunning.

The Knowledge Shine Bright remixes will be released in a series of EPs and the first one is engineered to blow up dance floors all over the place. See-I’s track The Boogieman features rapper Mr. Lif, and the Basement Freaks have stripped it down and reworked the tune from the bottom up. The result is an electro infused bass funk banger, a slice of futuristic funky hip-hop, which is a DJs dream. Fort Knox Recordings label mate Qdup remixed King of the Road adding some future go-go swing to create a funky glitch-hop anthem. These are the first See-I remixes by both of these accomplished artists, and instrumentals of both remixes are also available.

The first installment of the Knowledge Shine Bright Remixes sets the bar very high, with Basement Freaks and Qdup reinterpreting the funky reggae and hip-hop of See-I into dance floor monsters. With a range of sounds from electro, glitch-hop, funk, bass and breaks these remixes deliver the goods and create an irresistible party vibe.

London-based artist and Cubism mainstay Saytek is a producer I’ve been following awhile now, since coming across his sets in underground venues around London while living there. Needless to say, I was very excited when I heard he had signed an EP to Kevin Saunderson’s KMS and joined the ranks there.

The Crux EP is made up of two fantastic tracks. The title tune is a dark and heavy Detroit influenced track, ready for the late night. Classic chord stabs permeate the sound space and punctuate the rhythm of the composition.

The B side of the release is the groovy house-influenced Soul Games, which takes a laid back approach to the looping piano chords. A great chill tune for earlier in the night.

Both can be purchased on Beatport and Traxsource, where it is climbing the techno charts.

Above you’ll find two of Inko’s latest licks, all drenched in Summer vibes. One with some help from one of the friendliest folk in London, Jimi Needles. You can catch DJ Inko at 18:00 in the Rum Den at the  ShinDig Weekender! Limited tickets left so get them while they’re hot!
