If like me you’re of a certain age you’re going to feel kind of old when you hear that ‘ I’m Free ‘ by The Soup Dragons is now 25 years old, I know right!? On a much more positive note we have this quite amazing collection of four very individual rare and unreleased remixes of ‘ I’m Free ‘ that are brought to us from, Hifi Sean aka Sean Dickson, singer, songwriter and producer in his band, The Soup Dragons.

The remixes come from Terry Farely, Up Yours, Coqui Selection and Future pilot and are all House based remixes but each with their own unique twist. Get your hands on these rare beauties that have just recently surfaced, you’ll not be disappointed!

As you can imagine, being in a successful band in the early 90’s will only mean that Sean’s wealth of knowledge of music is immense so once again we urge you to pop over to his Soundcloud page and check out all of his other work. There is a vast amount to get stuck into so make yourself a cuppa, get comfy and enjoy the sounds Sean has on offer for you.

Filthy Mitts – Cold Get Ill

Every now and again a mix pops along that demands attention. If you own a pair of turntables, enjoy multi genre mixing and have respect for the art of turntablism…Look no further.

Two fella’s from Devon aka Mix Masta Mullet and DJ Madbeats, equal Filthy Mitts. They’ve produced a mix how I used to remember them. Reminiscent of Q Bert’s demolition pumpkin tape and Dj Babu’s Comprehension. Fast paced, head nodders with oodles of technical cuts, executed with finesse. If anything I’d say this mix will be more appealing to the current culture due to it’s fast pace, floor fillers and live remixes.

Featuring over 56 tracks in as many minutes, it’s a fast-paced audio assault, spanning multiple genres and including a load of original routines, mashups and edits.

It’s already getting heat from being reposted/tweeted by Krafty Kuts, JFB, DJ Vadim, Woody and more

If you only put one mix on your walkman this summer, make it this one!

Enjoy, it’s a belter!

Funkee Wadd – Shindig weekender Set

When you attend a busy festival or event, you hopefully meet people from all walks of life, different countries and cultures, who are all there for the same thing…Music.

I had the pleasure of chilling with this funky little Canadian whilst catching some rays with Shaka Loves You. His knowledge and passion for the scene made me instantly like him, even more so when he started jamming on the harmonica! We chilled all weekend. He was a dope, positive guy with nothing but love to give. I was kicking myself for missing his set on the Sunday. This rainy Monday, my Soundcloud feed shone a ray of light through my computer screen as I realised, I was going to spend the next hour getting down, to what I was kicking myself for missing last Sunday. Big up’s Kyle, look forward to chilling again son.

Summer is officially here...you can tell by the weather ; )

So fire up the BBQ, dust off cool box, drag out the garden furniture, get the neighbours round...get the umbrellas out and the wellies on, and turn up the boombox!

I suggest a mix of funky blends, choice cuts and cheeky samples, golden era hip hop and the 90s... @mr-p-plastik anyone?!

This is a beauty : )

Dj Hero has put together this three part mix series titled ‘ The Beginning ‘ as 2015 sees him celebrate 2o years under the name of Dj Hero. The idea behind these mixes is to look back on the music that was so inspirational to him when he was setting out on his journey into the big wide musical world. The music on offer from these mixes is all before 1998 so as you can imagine there’s quite an old skool vibe going on with plenty of Trance, House and Breaks all strung together on an Acid tip! This is a great window into of the mind of Dj Hero and we’re sure that even though the tunes are old skool there’s going to be some that will become new favourites. There were so many favourites that a bonus mix had to be created too, outstanding work Mr Hero!

Rollomatik originate from the Artic Circle. The crew consists of Hesh & Eaves, who are probably the northernmost players in the funk-fuelled party music scene. The sound of Rollomatik can be also discovered from their rock solid productions, which includes both original tunes and remixes for various artists.

Funk Bananas Vol.1 is a 15 track digital album release of fuzzy, fresh and funky breakbeat, big beat, ghetto swing and breaks, produced by some of Breakbeat Paradise’s finest talent.

A group of heavyweight artists and award winning breaks producers decided to go bananas, splicing originals and rarities together for this unique collaborative release. The full length album is packed full of fat breaks and sample chopped funky madness, and is guaranteed to get the dance floor moving and to pimp your speakers as well.

Funk Bananas Vol.1 surprises at every turn, with funk fuelled upbeat bangers and downbeat breaks a plenty. It is, quite literally, Breakbeat Paradise. Steppin’ up with a juicy, pumping funk experience, super soaked with nu breaks vs oldskool breakbeat – as the saying goes, ‘these are the breaks’!

Reviews:
“If you’re into beats and basslines then the Breakbeat Paradise label is the stuff of dreams. While many labels try to branch out into different styles and often lose their identities on the way, these guys deal solely in raucous breaks for the big room dances. While they usually release compilations by single artists, the imprint launched the first volume of the newly crowned Funk Bananas series. Coming through with a vast collection of new artists and familiar faces, these cuts are guaranteed to jump-start your Saturday evenings. Electrogorilla, Rory Hoy and many others dish out party bombshells in an old-school flavour. A mighty fine collection, indeed!” /Juno Download

“Peel back the digital skin of this LP and you’ll find the contents’ have a distinct tang (as mentioned above) of big beat although there are also base-notes (or should that be bass notes?) of ghetto funk and electro swing as well. Choicest cuts are Rory Hoy’s take on Electro Gorilla’s If You Really Like, Mr Bristow’s swing-hop number Rhythm Business and the standout – Pulp Fusion’s Chemical Method Mafia number I Got A Woman.” /Monkeyboxing.comRead full review here
