I may well have missed something on the musical path I tread, but Electro Swing and Los Angeles is a not combination I’m very familiar with. Here to prove it all works is though is the dapper gent, Duke Skellington. He’s on a mission to make sure L.A, and the world, are swinging to his beat with styles that include Future Swing, Swing House, Electro Swing and Swing and Glitch and it’s the latter of those where we’re heading with this bloc rocking party piece ‘The Genie(3 Wishes)’. Stacks of fun n filth to be found here!

Download ‘The Genie(3 Wishes)’ here via The Artist Union.

It was way back in 2013 when the Scour Records crew first caught wind of the talents of, Captain Flatcap. Their ecelectic Vintage Swing, Funk, Ska, Gypsy, Folk sound was something that instantly struck a chord with the Scour guys and they knew at that point that this group of gents needed to be kept an eye on.

The eyes and ears were kept firmly tuned in to what the Captain Flatcap guys have been up to over the last few years and now in 2016, all parties have finally got together to deliver us some mighty fine music. This coming together is the first time for both and is the first time Scour Records have ever released an LP on their label.

Captain Flatcap’s LP is by far, one of the widest ranging of sounds we’ve ever encountered from a collection of music. Electro Swing is the guys staple sound and is one that you’ll find neatly woven into many of the tracks on the album. It’s a sound they’ve become super accomplished at, but the LP brings a whole lot more than their love of vintage beats. There’s a vast array of influences going down which include Glitch Hop, Breaks, Dubstep, Triphop, Drum n Bass, Ska, Funk, Folk and there’s even a healthy helping of Spanish guitar and Russian mandolin. If that wasn’t already enough, the Flatcap crew have collaborated with Too Many T’s, Great Scott, Isabel Drake and William Breakspear. That does sound like a lot to comprehend I admit, but don’t worry, it’s just music, music that surprises and delights every second it’s being played.

Buy Captain Flatcap’s LP here from Juno.

Kemper is a true veteran, under different aliases he has broken the UK top 40 on more than one occasion.  The original ‘Light The Funk’ is a powerhouse of a tune with solid bass stabs, a memorable vocal hook and resonating beats. Tunes like this are red hot embers for the DJ to turn up the heat with!!! Check out Jem Haynes’ excellent remix below, a fusion of classic house elements and modern techier beats. Throwback Thursday! #8 in our calendar sees me rewinding to over ten years ago. I think this is probably the third mixtape i ever made. It was the era of myspace and  i had it on my page for people to download and listen to. No Soundcloud then folks! I used a little site called mix.dj.

Back then I was only able to do about 4 demos a year due to the price of buying records. It got a lot of praise from my piers so I decided to send it into iDJ (now no longer in publication) for their Raw Talent Competition and it got featured! With so much encouragement I graduated from the bedroom to the club and got my first gig – as they say … the rest is history!

3 brand new tracks by Lucas on Top Drawer Digital. ‘Say Goodnight’ is a firey dark number drawing influence from the J-Tek sound of 2009 to a house tempo. ‘Close Your Eye’ treads a delicate line between darkness and light and has a warm psychedelic feel enhanced by the spoken sample. ‘Think Of Tomorrow’ closes the EP in a more experimental freeform way, a deep melody heavy track with haunting pianos and rolling breaks. A welcome return from Lucas

InYou Records marks a 20th release milestone with 19 tracks of definitive house music!!!

The opening beats of Definitive Vol. 1 come from Oskar Smaal with ‘XYZ’, a track with all the right ingredients, beats that BUMP, Techy/Detroit stabbage, a real heater. Blend Bold go for more of a UK bass house style with the squelchy ‘Wise Watts’

Gribzy ‘Swing 65′ goes in deep n’ dubby with strong oldskool house influences. Andrew Pave ‘Get Away’ gives another unique slant on the experimental Bass house style leaning towards warehouse techno. Oliver Jay gets his ‘Beast Mode’ on with a swirly track in the Defected/DFTD vein.

Justin Pak provides the ‘Source Code’ for a stripped back drum laden chunky groove.  James DX beats on some ‘Caveman Drums’ knocking out a trippy thumper. Gianluca Russo shows he’s got ‘F**king Soul’ with a tasty track in the Country Club Disco/Simma Black style.

Breaking the boundaries in #7  of our musical advent, we have our friend SD Outfit. This Christmas Cracker urges you to drop the winter blues, crack open the eggnog and dance around in the dark to some naughty beats! Crossing all kinds of genre boundaries, it is fresh, it is funky and tech-fueled.

For his Christmas wishlist ….”If I would ask Santa for anything, I’d love an original press of the Pump DJs’ bootleg of Foxy Moron (Salty Remix), not even the Plumps have a copy of it anymore, but I’m pretty sure Santa would be a Finger Lickin’ fan, so no doubt has it kicking about in his crates.”

Thanks SD – we think so too!!
