Captain Flatcap LP – Scour Records
It was way back in 2013 when the Scour Records crew first caught wind of the talents of, Captain Flatcap. Their ecelectic Vintage Swing, Funk, Ska, Gypsy, Folk sound was something that instantly struck a chord with the Scour guys and they knew at that point that this group of gents needed to be kept an eye on.
The eyes and ears were kept firmly tuned in to what the Captain Flatcap guys have been up to over the last few years and now in 2016, all parties have finally got together to deliver us some mighty fine music. This coming together is the first time for both and is the first time Scour Records have ever released an LP on their label.
Captain Flatcap’s LP is by far, one of the widest ranging of sounds we’ve ever encountered from a collection of music. Electro Swing is the guys staple sound and is one that you’ll find neatly woven into many of the tracks on the album. It’s a sound they’ve become super accomplished at, but the LP brings a whole lot more than their love of vintage beats. There’s a vast array of influences going down which include Glitch Hop, Breaks, Dubstep, Triphop, Drum n Bass, Ska, Funk, Folk and there’s even a healthy helping of Spanish guitar and Russian mandolin. If that wasn’t already enough, the Flatcap crew have collaborated with Too Many T’s, Great Scott, Isabel Drake and William Breakspear. That does sound like a lot to comprehend I admit, but don’t worry, it’s just music, music that surprises and delights every second it’s being played.
