Al Pack has been having another search through some of his favourite tunes he’d quite like to remix and has unearthed India Arie‘s soulful gem ‘Video’. As many of you will know, Al’s a D n B specialist and although he’s a huge lover of the Liquid side of things, his new remix is a real sizzler and is once again packed full of sunshine vibes and super cool flow. You’ll be playing this more than once for sure!

We’ve another one of those situations on the ward where we’re all about to get a damn good funkin’! All that is down to Forrest Funk‘s latest offering which has seen him rework ‘Push & Pull’ by the legendary, Rufus Thomas. The low-slung grooving original has been given a new pair of Midtempo Breaks boots and with it now running at 115bpm, you can now get down on the floor and do your thang. Seriously funky stuff!

We love the sound of the ItaloBros and we adore their new ‘Tille EP’ on Criminal Hype. The title track builds up to a carousel of swirling synths and feelgood vibrations all round. ‘Jorpe’ personifies instant reaction switching between alternating riffs and crashing drum rolls.  Rich Wakley gives ‘Tille’ that full phat rework that we know and love him for, plenty of bassy drums and teasing leads. Riaz Dhanani gets hold of ‘Jorpe’ and changes the mood for darker more pumping take on the original. Off the scale once again!!!

Rainforest- Life On Earth LP [Cadence] out 31/03/17

Rainforest is known  primarily for his DnB productions. This time, the Mexican beatsmith offers up a full LP of DnB, Downtempo Breaks and Dub influenced soundscapes. Its a case of which pearl to pick first from this ocean of tranquil beats. Maybe you could try on the stripped back aquatic grooves of ‘Arrivals’ full of swirling flamenco guitar licks and gentle percussion. From tranquil water we move to warmer deeper parts of the sea with the dubby ethereal jungle fusion ‘Bay Tempo’

‘Black Ocean’ switches into full on classic intelligent Jungle mode a la PFM, Bukem et al. ‘Coyoaca╠ün’ swims in the direction of Detroit for a futuristic minimal sound wall. ‘Earth From Above’ dives deep into the coral reef combining subtle synths with a deep throbbing bassline, light meets dark but more sophisticated than that simple metaphor. ‘Garden Of Souls Pt 1′ treads a line between mellow and slightly sinister while Pt II slips into some intricate organic instrumentation and drumfunk style breaks. We get jazzy and downtempo with ‘Hostel Alley’ before sailing to the Middle East for the melancholic haze of ‘Lyla & Saleem’.

Every Jungle/DnB LP needs a pure amen break track which is supplied here in the form of ‘Mothership’. And for your morning dip into the sun soaked waters, ‘Silent Horizon’ will put the wind in your sail with its light playful DnB beats.’Life On Earth’ is always good when Rainforest’s beats are on the speakers…

James Silk ‘Don’t You Want It’ on Daylight Robbery is a sublime Tech House roller firmly in the 90s mold. The addictive grooves and Break Of Dawn vocal snippet are ripe for heaving dancefloors and a DJ weapon that cannot fail. K & K provide one of their snappy back to basics Tech House refixes with emphasis on the drums and fever pitch mania-inducing loops. If rocking the house is a crime, James Silk, K & K and Daylight Robbery are guilty!!!

Next up on Swerve Digital is Lee Garret with ‘Mind’, be prepared to have yours blown!!! The original grinds nicely with a funky bassline and echoey sounds floating around the pounding drums that themselves work up to siren like crescendos.  Our absolute favourite mix of this track on the EP is by Pete Dorling, his version morphs the original into a dark winding twister of a track intended for pummeling the big rooms. A Lister provides a signature drum loaded oldskool edged refix which works enormously well. And Fancy Inc conclude the remixes with their own tough driving take on the original. Its been an honour and a privilege watching Swerve Digital grow as a label. With this new Lee Garret release, Swerve have put House music elite on notice and deservedly so.
