The scouting team at, Desert Heart Records, continue to blow our minds by tracking down some of the most talented House and Techno producers from around the globe. UK based, Holt Blackheath, is the latest one to be presented to us and he’s a producer the crew have been keeping tabs on for a couple of years now. They’ve become big fans of his music and they’re chuffed to bits to be able send our his ‘Kick Back‘ EP.

The EP contains 3 free tracks in total. The first 2 come from Holt himself with the title track of the EP ‘Kick Back‘ supplying a real peak time party feel while ‘Switch‘ turns on the darker, deeper vibes for when you’ve settled into your groove. The final track is a remix of ‘Kick Back’ by fellow Brit, Kreature, who gets things kicking off hard with his 128 BPM Tech House spin of the original. High quality music for the real music lover.

American producers, Evan Gamble Lewis and DM, have both been in fine form this year with a string of mammoth Breakbeat releases on one of America’s hottest labels, Bombtraxx. They’ve both had a number of releases of their own, as well as remixing each others tracks and collabing on a few too and it’s collab time right now with their beast of a tune ‘This Is Why I’m Underground‘. Die Antwoord fans will instantly recognise the vocal that the guys have lifted from ‘This Is Why I’m Hot‘ which adds a gritty edge to a track that’s heavy in bass and full on Breakbeat action. Test you’re metal if you dare!

Scour Records ‘Freemix‘ series is packed full of Ghetto Funk/Funky Breaks weapons, but with this latest release which comes from Dephicit and Summer Bright, it’s all about Drum n Bass this time around. The Midtempo Breaks/Nu-Funk/Glitch Hop producers have been dropping some amazing D n B tunes over recent times and the South Coast based duo have chipped in with their extremely lively rework of ‘Give The Baby‘ by, Joe Tex, which sits alongside the best of them quite comfortably. We don’t here that much music from General News, but you can be sure that when he’s dropping one of his red hot jams, it’s gonna be headline making stuff! Grabbing the headlines here and now is his Funky Breaks rework of Shalamar’s ‘A Night To Remember‘ which, although kicking pretty damn hard and having a wonky and filthy bassline, it still captures the Disco essence of the original bang on. Make it a night to remember by having this one ready to roll!

It’s fair to say that Stevie Wonder’s all time classic ‘Superstition‘ is one of the more popular tunes to be given the remix, edit, re-fix, rework treatment. I’ve certainly come across a lot on my hunts for new music, some of them I just couldn’t connect with and some I’ve loved to bits. What I’ve not found though is a take on the original that’s as down right funky as this one by, Dave Gerrard. His gutsy Disco groovin’ spin has plenty of curb appeal and will definitely attract the attentions of those who like to get properly funked up! As this edit is here, it shouldn’t be too hard to work out that I love this one to bits and I’m sure you will to.

French duo, Afshin and Kiss My Black Jazz, have smashed their latest collaborative edit out of the park and then some! They do both produce music as solo artists, but the recent joining of forces looks like it going to be a very fruitful one indeed, especially if their incredibly cool and funky edit of ‘Jump‘ by the Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklin, is anything to go by. If these guys have more tracks like this in the pipeline, the future looks good for us all!
