Welcome to the first installment of my ’20 Years a Kid’ mixtape series! This first mix covers the years from 1996 to 1998 when I first started DJing in Sydney (and long before most people in Australia had ever heard of me). This first mix captures some of the tracks I was playing back then: hip hop, big beat, and early breaks. ‘Breaks’ wasn’t actually a genre yet in 1996 and you had to dig pretty hard (at your local record store) to find a good breakbeat sounding record. But that’s what made it so exciting, the ‘discovery’. I’m sure there’s a tonne of tunes I’ve forgotten on here (and there were some I left off as they didn’t quite work in the mix) but the essence of what I did back then is here, including the last track ‘Papua New Guinea’ which I’d drop last EVERY time I DJ’d.

Anyway, I hope you dig the mix! Big love and welcome to my 20 year flashback! – Kid Kenobi

This mix is part of Breakzlinkz Retro series: www.breakzlinkz.net/retro/

Noisily Festival of Music and Arts is definitely one on my list of festivals to visit in the UK. I’ve only heard great things about it from friends and read the same from Dj’s that have played there. The location sounds sublime, the people that attend sound like the one’s you’d really love to party with and the music, well, that’s a bit special too, as you’re about to hear in this massively impressive 80 minute mix from, Nanoplex, which has been kindly released for free by Iboga Records. The ride you’re about to go on with this truly captivating Progressive Techno mix is gonna be epic, no doubts about it. Tune in and zone out.

We’ve been eagerly awaiting the third volume of ‘We Are OKNF’ from the Brooklyn based collective, OKNF, for a while now, so when it caught our eye on a music hunt we couldn’t wait to give it a spin. Once again we’re very pleased we did because the heat and heaviness of the 5 free tracks found on volume three is insane. FromDropTillDawn, Deezy & Embee, Bob Gravity, GiddiBangBang and Chick Iverson are the producers who are delivering the bullish House tracks that have heaps of attitude and bass. Lets ‘ave it!

If you’re stuck with the decision of ‘stay in or go out’ this evening, Mr. Ours and WBBL are here to help make it a pretty straight forward one. You’re decision will be ‘go out’ because their new remix of Beastie Boys‘ ‘Make Some Noise’ is absolutely huge. Fat, chunked out beats and all the beans the guys could muster have been pumped into this 100% dance floor bouncer. The dancing shoes out there are gonna get a pounding when this one drops!
