Neon Steve – Up All Night

Neon Steve is planning on giving away 14 tunes in 2014 as apart of his ”Free’on Steve” series and first off the rank is this tasty acid breaks floor burner Up All Night. If this tune is anything to go by it’s going to be a stellar year in the Neon Steve camp.

Jon Kennedy – Corporeal Remixed

Jon Kennedy is a drummer, dj and music producer who has long been spreading his passion for beats, bass lines and luscious melodies through his dj sets, radio shows and productions and following on from his Corporeal album release in mid-2013, he has just released a collection of remixes from the album on his own Jon Kennedy Federation label. The original album was an eclectic blend of genre bending trip hop and down tempo type grooves that in my opinion held ground with some of the biggest albums of the genre (did someone say Endtroducing) and on the remix front we again find vast arrays of genres present which should come as no surprise when you see the list of artists that are on offer.
The chilled trip hop feel is still ever present, particularly in Cartier Saucier, Exhibitor and Marc Mac’s offerings and there are also Jazz and Hip hop vibes abound on the mixes supplied by Sinuz, Oliver Lowe, Dj Flux & friends and Head Chamber, the latter being a head nodding remix of Pronounce Your Shit which has a sound very reminiscent of old school Gramatik that doesn’t disappoint. Things delve down and deep on the tunes from Marcus Intalex & Trevino, Evirgen, Lopez & Undercover 83 and Phillip T.B.C whilst the tempo gets jacked all the way to max with Rolaz’s remix of Flow, N3GUS’s version of Bossa No Var and JFB’s take on Live My Life all of which are gritty DnB numbers that still manage to capture the essence of the original tune, a testament to the genre jumping feel of the entire album.
Corporeal Remixed is a sublime collection of varied styles, vibes and tempos that, with the Jon Kennedy sound as a backbone, gives continuity to the album as a whole and makes for a thoroughly unique and enjoyable listening experience. Many of the tracks would also easily make the transition to the club setting but in my opinion the album needs to be listened to as a whole to get the full appreciation of its quality, a definite must have.

Free Music Oh my god I got excited when this turned up on my soundcloud feed. The Phantom has become such a classic in the swing world, and any excuse to play it again has to be a good thing. Plenty of festivals are going to be hit by this beauty this summer!
This freebie from Cee-Roo is supremely funky and will fit nicely into many a set.
Grant Lazlo has been celebrating the festive season by being really generous. He’s given away a tasty remix of Stevie Wonders Superstition, three tracks off his album, and one older track. The quality of all of them is really good and if you like these check out his album here.

And another… on a slightly strange swing tip that I’m struggling to explain…
New Releases Kiss Me Yesterday – Downtown Stoned EP Vienna’s Kiss Me Yesterday seem to be going from strength to strength and they’ve come through with another strong EP with remixes by Swingbot, Extra Medium, incontroL and Lord Justice. It’s available for 5 Euros from bandcamp.
Jamie Berry & Jazzotron – Kiss Me Jamie Berry is back with a release with Jazzotron called Kiss Me. It’s a bit slower than his usual releases but definitely worth a look.
Electric Swing Circus – Bella Belle (Remix Competition Winners Preview) It’s not available until late February, but if you fancy knowing who won the Electric Swing Circus’ remix competition here’s the 5 winning entries. They’re all sounding really good and will no doubt be heard a lot this summer.
This has sneaked in at the end because I don’t want to forget this! Sound Nomaden has been reaching even further back into the dusty reaches of time with this remix of Antonin Dvorak (1841 – 1904). Sound Nomaden is hoping to get it released in March.
DJ Mixes Shout out to the Boomtown Kaptin for this rather fine selection mixing up all the best swinging cover versions:

Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is very pleased to welcome back Tom Drummond with a brand new party rockin’ – booty shaking EP. 4 fresh new ghetto jams – straight from the western shores of Australia.
