Breaksjunky – The Armory Podcast 060

This week on The Armory Podcast, we’re pleased to welcome Manchester’s Breaksjunky (aka Martyn King), a 2013 Breakspoll finalist for “Best New DJ”, to the 1s and 2s. Press play. Get down!
It has been a great start to the year for Breaksjunky, After being nominated in 2013 at Breakspoll International Breakbeat Awards for ‘Best New DJ’ and narrowly missing out, he came back even stronger to not only take the Award in 2014, putting his name on everyone’s lips, but also adding ‘Best Radio Show’ to the collection.
When Manchester’s Breaksjunky first stepped up to the decks in 2002 he had a simple ambition, to infect the masses with Big, Fat, Dirty BASS!! Since those early days he has only gone from strength to strength with a string of performances for some of the biggest names in Club Land, playing along side the like of: Grandmaster Flash, Plump DJs, Stanton Warriors, The Freestylers, Dub Pistols, Meat Katie, Cut La Roc, Elite Force, Far Too Loud, Gaudi, Dub Mafia, Slamboree, Monk3ylogic, Krossbow, Bad Tango & Justin Robertson to name a few.
Not content with just rubbing shoulders with the greats, Breaksjunky has made it his personal mission to play at all of the U.K’s most inspirational club nights and festivals. 2013 saw him play a string of stand out sets across the U.K and take to the stage at Boomtown Fair, Ravenstonedale Festival and being Honoured with opening the amazing, ‘Fortress’ stage at The Beat-Herder Festival.
As well as his own Radio Show, awards and DJ sets, Breaksjunky is also a chart success having his debut track “All That Junk” co produced with Zen Cartel, do very well in the Beatport Breaks chart since it’s release and has lots of new projects and co labs underway!
Most recently Breaksjunky has started to infect Europe & Asia performing in Copenhagen in Denmark, Bangkok & Phuket in Thailand and has more International bookings in the pipeline, he’s all about spreading the gospel of Breaks.
With the buzz still going after his current Awards, 2014 is set to be a another great year!!

PAUL CRONIN- FUTURE EP [San Francisco Nights Records]

The nuskool rave master is back with a brand new EP of full on hardcore rave in a variety of tempos. ‘Piano Tune’ is a rousing piano rave number with shades of old skool Prodigy to it, the title track transports the listener back to 1992 with big old skool pads and a monumental drop, ‘Bring It Back’ continues on the oldskool tip with a pounding assortment of pads/melodies and crunching drums. ‘I Rip Ya Torso’ ups the tempo for a Slammin Vinyl style ‘ardcore banger, ‘Yo Drum Again’ goes for the Prodigy style vibes for a quirky drum laden opus, love yer ‘ardcore? get this EP!!!

DAVID ELIZA FT JAEL- MOTION EP [ULTRA BASS RECORDS]

Its like 98′ all over again but with a fresh twist, the next release on Ultra Bass is distinctive Garage/House with a high level of production and attention to detail, ‘Amazin’ in its original concept is a soulful and uplifting 2 Step/Deep House hybrid and the Rare Candy remix is a impressively smooth speed garage rework, Tommy MC offers up a bumpin’ remix for the clubs and then there is ‘The Ride’, a deep organ fueled 4×4 cut that seams together the best of the old and nu skool plus a great remix by Rare Candy taking things into even deeper territory with a dubby style house rework, excellence from Ultra Bass who are setting a real precedent for the garage revival, this label is going to go from strength to strength without a doubt and these artists deserve recognition for some solid tunes!!!

Goodfellas – Soul Heaven (Mafia Kiss Edit)
Just before Mafia Kiss jetted off to play Kazantip this year he teased us with a picture of a track he had just edited especially for that festival. The picture in question was of this very track,
by the Goodfellas and now he has just released it for free download. The original was a up tempo house number back in 2000 but it’s now been given the Kiss and has been reignited as a Bass fuelled Breakbeat stallion! When this drops it really drops! Massive work by Mafia Kiss once again!

Mind Vortex - First Play

****Bulabreakdown First Play Exclusive****
Fresh from an Exclusive Spin on Anne Macs Radio Show Just a Few Minutes ago.
This the Soulful 80s Synth Sounding Soulful Vocal Banger is Called “ Colours “
Its out on Ram Records241114
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006wqdc
Locked away in sonic solitude, Mind Vortex has been building these next four cuts with absolute precision. And being such a pivotal signing for the RAM imprint, it’s no surprise that this EP has been met with almost unbearable anticipation.
Few acts capture the vibrancy and pent-up energy that Mind Vortex commands. Another charged assault on the aural senses, the ‘Colours EP’ is definitely a return to form. An impressive feat, having already set the bar high with tracks like ‘Hotbox’ being showcased on label head Andy C’s revered Nightlife series.
‘Colours’ alludes to Mind Vortex’s different stylistic dimensions. With a cinematic soundscape and emotionally lead vocals, it’s tenderly spoken but doesn’t lack in impact. A muscular bassline sits beneath grinding percussion, which is softened by loops of beat arpeggios. Sure-fire club anthems are what Mind Vortex capture perfectly and ‘Colours’ pedestals this form of art at its finest.
One of their biggest releases to date, expect this EP to resound in both underground dancehalls and the headphones of dnb-heads everywhere. These four blasting production behemoths will ensure that Mind Vortex stay on the agenda’s forefront. Although, with their gold-plated discography, there’s no way they could have left.
