DJ Chronic’s first professional gig as a DJ was at the tender age of 16 opening up for the 2 Live Crew at Central City in Gainesville FLA, which in my opinion is quite amazing. Dedicated to Fresh Kid Ice from the 2 Live Crew who passed away that the same night as DJ Chronic’s first pro gig, DJ Chronic drops a lively new mix for the Legendary Breakers of Boom. Sleepless is a UK based record label that specialises in House and Techno and even though it was only born at the beginning of this year, they’ve released a huge number of quality tracks, with a few mixes along the way too. There’s a stack of free music to be found, so if you’re needing to beef up your House and Techno collections, get your hunting head on and track your future faves!

One of the quality tracks that they’ve released that caught my attention was from Manchester’s, Mike Jones and his superb remix of Ratpack’s ‘Searchin’ For My Rizla‘. The punchy House twist he’s applied, along with the perfect amounts of old skool and nu-skool, will have you wanting to bust some moves for sure! Keep some moves to one side though because after further investigation it turns out that this remix is part of an 2 track EP with another remix, this time of Technotronic’s ‘Pump Up The Jam‘. If you want to grab the attention of the dance floor, either of these two ear-catching tunes will do the trick.

It’s about a year ago now since Data Transmission last featured music from Plump DJs and that time around they were joined by Stanton Warriors with their outstanding ‘Arcadia‘ set from last years Glastonbury festival. Try Unity are a trio with almost two decades of ripping up the pirate radio stations oldskool hardcore style. ‘Stand Up’ & ‘Fight For Love’ are the two huge tracks that make up the first of many oldskool hardcore themed releases. If you love pure 1992 Breakbeat Hardcore then you definitely need this EP Try Unity are RadioSam, pirate radio DJ since circa 2000 playing 100% oldskool hardcore (or having played on) on stations including Hyper FM, Origin FM and currently on Brighton’s only FM pirate Code South 105.6 FM. Jimmy Ewins previously released some nuskool breaks tracks on Aquasky’s 777 label 10-15 years ago under the alias Jim Shimmer. Try Unity’s vocalist is Francesca Purcell. ‘Stand Up’ & ‘Fight For Love’  is EP No1 of a series of upcoming vinyl releases on Try Unity’s label RAVE RADIO RECORDS.

‘Stand Up’ is 2017’s ‘People Hold On’, a raver’s ode to the ethos of Peace, Love, Respect & Unity. In the turbulent and hate filled times we live in, this tune is a message of hope that reminds us what the rave scene was about back in the days of warehouse parties and open field sound systems. Crisp Jungle Breaks, uplifting vocals and Francesca Purcell’s positive vocals ring true, love is indeed the only way. What a great track, pure 92′ rave right down to the rushy mid section.

‘Fight For Love’ has the feel of a Suburban Base release circa 92′. Rolling breaks, Julee Cruise esque other wordly vocals from Francesca , scratches and a Rap vocal once again emphasising the need for PLUR. The synths keep up that Son’z Of A Loop Da’ Loop Era/Run Tings vibe with extra bouncing breaks and a super cool extended scratch. The production is excellent on both tracks, a fine introduction to Try Unity, a production who clearly know, love, live and breath oldskool hardcore.
