What is it with 4000? Looks like a popular number with the whipper snappers in the game. They’re all over it! Yesterday it was Phibes on Soundcloud and today it’s Father Funk on Facebook. Youth today eh? Must be all the happy slap vids and gym photo’s he keeps posting. Any way, a great feat, from a great artist. As always his work rate is bulging like his trousers whilst eating his tea in front of Hollyoaks. He’s blessing you with, yes another banger! This time he’s knocked up a gem that’ll have you beating the clunge of with a bat. God bless you father funk.

THE GASLIGHT TROUBADOURS are two shadowy UK-based producers named Professor Singleton Purblind and Lon Lippincott, exploring the darker side of the pond, whether that be from the Victorian era, the first half of the twentieth century, or anywhere else that tales their fancy. You can certainly describe what they do as vintage, but The Gaslight Troubadours’ main aim is to recreate the slightly twisted concepts that have been dreamt up in their somewhat sinister imaginations.

“The Devil Swings Out” is their first single on Green Queen Music. Far more uptempo than the tracks on their debut album Clockwork Curiosities, the influence here is unmistakably thirties American Swing, but the subject matter is far darker than most. Less Fred Astaire, this is about the devil. It’s a cautionary tale, which warns that if you carry on down a certain path in life, then the devil will come a knockin’. But is that really such a bad thing when the devil has all the best moves? You decide.

Toolroom have long been a top-tier label in the dance music world, and recently they’ve been focused on returning to their roots. If the Rhythm Distrikt 09 release is any indication, I definitely like where they’re going. It features 10 tracks from 10 artists, each of which provides some no-nonsense techno for the dance floor.

Leading the charge with “This Time It’s For Real” from one of my go-to producers of the moment. Ukraine’s Skober brings us a jacky and driving track, with a siren-like vocal complimenting a plethora of rhythmic sounds.

Ron Costa’s “Owl Jolson” (with a clever pun in the title) offers a slightly more chilled take on rhythmic techno, with a muted synth line that oozes cool. This one has already made it in to my podcast (AOWS Episode 038 airing this week).

Canadian Jayforce makes his Toolroom debut with this hypnotic sounding “What”, combining swirly synths with a vocal stab that makes it sound almost like a video game.

Egoism also provide a great tune here, with the snare drum teases in their tune “Jack”. Some great rhythm to play with layered in a DJ set.

The full track list is below, featuring these along with 6 more choice cuts.

1. Skober – This Time It’s For Real
2. Ron Costa – Owl Jolson
3. Joe Blake – Searching
4. The YellowHeads – Whipsers
5. Stefano Kosa – The Cave
6. Spartaque – Undine
7. Oscar L – Switch On The Love
8. Deas – Mirage
9. Egoism – Jack
10. Jayforce – What

The full release can be previewed via Soundcloud, and is out NOW on Beatport.

These lads are becoming the mafioso of the Ghetto Funk world. They’re moving units. Last month they hit 3000 followers. After a night of celebrating they were found high on DMT, doing the Gangnam Style in Falmouth docks to this celebratory banger….

This month they’ve hit another landmark. 4000 to be precise! In true Phibes fashion, they’ve knocked up a little number to get us dancing.  Moving on from last years big dance, they’ve crafted a nifty, little slammer. Concentrating on the harlot dance that Miley Cyrus invented, the Twerk.

Splice it with Lafayette Afro Rock Band, Krs 1 and Apache, you get something pretty damn tasty. You know why? There’s nothing to do with Miley Cyrus on this tune, apart from the word twerk in the title. Breath easy and destroy a dance floor with this one.

I thought for my second post that I would hook up some free music from one of my favourite labels at the moment, Soulection. The Los Angeles based label and collective are always pushing the boundaries with their bass music/hip hop themes that follow a lot of the tracks that they release. Co-founders of the label, Joe Kay and Andre Power are the voices and faces that I see representing the vibes that this label’s music creates. I must add names like Mr. Carmack (for the Shambhala goers DO NOT MISS HIS SET THIS YEAR. You will regret it :)) and ESTA are the names that brought me to find these very talented people.

This compilation highlights the music of some very talented up and coming producers, some of which I’ve been following for some time now but had no idea that they were connected with this label. Each track is a tribute to one of the most talented R’N’B singers ever, Sade. Her amazing voice and vibes are taken to whole new levels with each edit. Also this compilation is a milestone for them, their soundcloud account just topped 200,000 followers! So please download and relax to these awesome sounds. Enjoy :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Hailing from Nottingham, Lucas Luck releases this house beauty into the wild … in his own words “If The Hulk made music, it’d sound like Lucas Luck‘s bass driven beats.” Boomslang is a 4 to the floor number featuring heavy, choppy vocals, catchy melody and some heavy stabbing bass … just what the dancefloor doctor ordered!

Derry’s Sirkus Sirkuz aka Decky Hedrock hit’s us hard with his new freebie and they keep getting better and better. With punchy acid stabs and euphoric vocal he has certainly developed his signature, genre crossing sound. Getting likes from the big players from the offset, this is one for those moody, twisted times when nothing else will do!

The Dutch DJ and producer, BEAURICHE, continues to make an impact with his wildly varied take on house music. His originals, official remixes and his massive back catalogue of bootlegs and edits range from disco to tech and everything in between.

His latest, another signing to Funkerman’s Can You Feel It Records, is decidedly deep. Picking up off of a 90s, garage-tinged tip, “Hope” builds on warm chords, a bubbling bassline – all capped with irresistible shuffling percussion.
