It seems like I’ve been posting less and less of the funky. That’s not intentional – we’ve simply haven’t received a lot of it worth writing about, which is why I was excited to see the latest from Scour Records.

The promo came with a cherry on top, seeing the swinging delights of EXTRA MEDIUM within the package. I first heard of him on one of my own scours for the second Roaring 2020s show where he was kind enough to send his remix of “Delight.”

Since then, Extra Medium has injected his bassy razzmatazz far and wide. For his five-track EP on one of the funkiest labels around, he does more of the same, spreading punchy swing and blues like fanned jazz hands. This is a release that’s going to get a work out locally and swinging dance floors world-wide. Grab it from Juno.

Insane Music, is the brainchild of a collective of Swiss Drum n Bass promoters called, Insane Events. Running nights in Switzerland for over ten years now these guys are no slouches when it comes to showcasing hard as nails music. They’ve created their imprint, Insane Music, to help bring a sound they love to the forefront of the underground scene.

Their first EP ‘ Insanity Vol.1 ‘ sees five guys signed to the label strut their stuff with the Neurofunk side of the Drum n Bass spectrum. Noizesplitter, hiGhFi_dElitY, Neural Network, Scud and Law & Order dish out some vicious bass and beats that’ll have you sat on the edge of your seats wondering whether to run and hide or to just go nuts with your fiercest shapes. Since hearing this track for the first time we have been playing it so much had it been a record or a cassette it would have worn out!!! The original is a lovely warm sounding Garage/Tech House track with mellow organ keys that shift and filter with sweet jazzy interludes, we’re sure you won’t hear many tracks of this distinction, it has a smooth magnetism that draws the listener in, a classic house tune in the very essence. The Fernan Dust Remix strips things back for a more tribal feel, we urge you to go out and get this!!!
