CLSM has produced in many styles since 1993, Hard House, Freeform Hardcore and other genres, famous to old skool ravers for his Jon Doe alias, he has also produced under the alias of Peacemaker and achieved support from the likes of Pete Tong with ‘Crisis’ released in 2001. As CLSM he has worked with many of the biggest names in U.K Hardcore and championed the new wave of 170bpm breakbeat hardcore on his label and via the ‘Breakbeat Revolution’ series of compilations. CLSM also works behind the scenes on a variety of multi genre projects including Southampton based Deep House act FooR, Today I have the pleasure of reviewing the 3rd and latest in the ‘Breakbeat Revolution’ series, 15 tracks of musical brilliance that join the dots between Happy/U.K Hardcore, DnB and Freeform, lets go through track by track of this must have release….

Redmoon Ft Meron Ryan-Never Let Go (CLSM Intro version)
Starting with a powerful euphoric intro with mellow guitars and poppy vocals evoking classic Happy Hardcore a la Force & Styles, ‘Never Let Go’ explodes into a bassy stepper loaded with huge bass stabs, amen breaks and a fiery uptempo energy.

DJ Red Alert & Mike Slammer-Ganja Man (CLSM & Chris Ross Remix)
Every oldskool raver knows this one, CLSM & Chris Ross bring it right up to date while keeping all those elements that make ‘Ganja Anthem’ a true underground anthem, the Amiga style sampled vox, pianos and pads are all present with a huge rolling break, drop this in the mix along with CABLE’s remix of D Force ‘Original Bad Boy’ for some 170bpm+ oldskool remix action!!!

CLSM Ft Effie-What You Running Away From
If the intro doesn’t get your spine tingling you might want to check your pulse, bridging the gap perfectly between big anthemic U.K hardcore and DnB with a vocal that will give you goosebumps and heavy melodic bass that you can just hear on a huge soundsystem at the rave/festival.

Freefall-All I Want (Blag Records)
is great track combines elements of House, Raga & Jungle into some dubby breakbeat hardcore, you can hear the roots of breakbeat hardcore going all the way back to 91/92 listening to this.

DJ Tanker-Coming For Ya CLSM Edit
‘Coming For Ya’ features a gorgeous R&B/Soul style vocal and some poppin’ bass not to mention some lovely piano.

Matt Lastname & CLSM-Zed Bass
Zed Bass is epic and sharp as a knife, a jaw dropping opener acts as the warm up for some dark techno like bassline business and stripped back 2 stepping beats, a great contrast of sounds drawing on the Freeform sound that emerged out of Happy Hardcore back in the late 90s

Chris Ross & CLSM Ft Dionne-Shadows Darken
Another darker edged track that builds to a crescendo of intricate strings, a shot to the haters showing that breakbeat hardcore can do deep just as good as any other genre

Freq Theory-Never Stop
Freq Theory who also produces as Perfect Poise goes in hard with a driving pulsing and well endowed bassline in contrast to piano that will send the listener into a trance, all this plus some great breakbeat manipulation in the drops.

Jason Bouse Ft Zoe Van West-2000 Miles (CLSM Remix)
Hailing from the U.S, Jason Bouse’s ‘2000 Miles’ with mind blowing vocals from Zoe Van West is another track with that classic Happy Hardcore ethos, especially the vocals, CLSM remixes the track into a meaty combo of soaring strings and grimey bass.

CLSM-Stand Up For Something (Abyss Savage Amen Remix)
Switchblade Digital gaffer and master of the dark and macabre NuSkool Darkcore sound Abyss, builds a fortress of pummelling amen breaks around the rushy original by CLSM reworking it into a master class in breakology & super low subs.

Sonic Supernova-Chrome Tonic
The Freeform influence is very clearly present in this flowing bleepy track that fits into all kinds of genres and sub genres and has a propensity to stick in your head.

Freq Theory-Bass Of Asia
‘Bass Of Asia’ is awash with sublime melody, floaty synths amd progressive sounding pads, it soon gets hectic and manic in the best possible fashion, fans of the pioneering Great British Techno imprint will really appreciate this.

Fidget & CLSM-Dark Heart
Dark Heart is another great crossover track, epic strings and pianos, the vocals make for a great song before an exquisite switch into a Techstep/Neurofunk DnB like sound.

Sc@r, Wizbit & Ponder-Fall From Grace (Ponder VIP Mix)
Another brilliant fusion of sound on what is an outstanding LP, its really tough to pigeonhole which is a good thing although there is an unmistakable Happy Hardcore feel while being equal parts DnB at the same time, this would send the crowd crazy wherever played, its made for the rave!!!

Heavy & The DJ-Stoop
A strong Prodigy/Spor feel to this great track to finish off this essential album, live guitars, Indie style vocals set to a 170bpm beat, its genius.
