KANT: NIGHTCALL [BLACK BUTTER RECORDS]
Black Butter Records can do no wrong. The strength of the label comes from the imprint’s output – ranging from bass to tech to deep. Releasing bone-shaking singles alongside moody house tunes might not seem like a winning strategy but when looking listening to the BB catalogue on a micro level, they’ve captured something lovely and diverse and we’re all better for it.
The latest single is from Denmark’s KANT – which is Danish for ‘edge’ – who’s back catalogue also reflects Black Butter’s versatility where darker, more minimal production gives way to a smoother, groove-laden charm, as demonstrated with the delectable Nightcall. The tune itself is built on a two-step rhythm, gently laid under soulful, crooning vocals, and a groove so charming it’ll woo your gran.
