As THE FREESTYLERS, Matt Cantor and Aston Harvey are two pioneers of breakbeat. On their latest single, the pair channel the heady days of warehouse parties with an acid trip of their own. Recruiting FAST EDDIE‘s vocal might this release might have been in every dj’s crate 20+ years ago. It’s impossible not to get caught up in any nostalgia the single brings, but rest assured, “The Sound” is pure dancefloor fiya in 2014. Take a listen below and watch for the release to drop on May 12 (iTunes) on Black Hole Recordings.

If you’re truly after the warehouse vibe though, BLAPPS POSSE (of which Aston Harvey is a part of) is the cut that travels time. Back in the day, we’d buy a 12″ for one track, and well, this track would be it. The others on this single would be a bonus to have but I guarantee you, this is the one we’d all play. Screaming 303, piano stabs, clean breaks, and echoed choral vocals make this cut the standout even with quality production standards of 2014. This release (along with an instrumental) is available now on beatport.

ZOO BRAZIL mute the acid tendancies on the single ever so slightly and give the kicks a romp in the dark for another ace remix.
