Welcome Music lovers.. hope everyone is well and you havn’t missed me too much.

These mixtape dig’s should be coming out at a much more consistant rate now that I’m back from holiday (It was great thank you) and settling into the UK lifestyle here in Bristol.. I have to say my initial feeling is that I like this place. I like it a lot.

I am very excited to share this weeks mix with you because it was recorded by one of my favourite DJ’s

Im not sure if I can call him underrated because anyone actually putting a rating on him wouldn’t dip below top marks.. If you havn’t heard of him it’s probably because he is so bloody humble, and he doesn’t DJ for the spotlight or popularity, he does it because he loves music. FACT.

When Luke Stereo DJ’s in the Ghetto Funk nightclub we never know what to expect genre-wise.. it could be breaks, disco, acid house.. but all I can say is that I love it every time. I would like to think that most people’s music tastes are always changing and evolving, if you feel like you have a good appreciation for music and are open to discovering new music.. GOOD music, you should start by clicking HERE and following Luke on facebook.. trust me, it’s going to open some doors for you.

I pulled Luke out of his busy schedule that mainly consists of just hanging out and being a legend, and got him to answer a few questions for you all.

How was 2013 for you and what were your most memorable moments?

Luke: 2013 for me was special. I lost count of the number of festivals I did last year, but highlights would be definitely be playing at Glastonbury, which is always amazing,  and Shambala with the guys from Ghetto Funk. The smaller festivals have a fantastic vibe and can definitely hold their own along side the big boys!

What would you say is the best and worst thing about being a DJ?

Luke:
The
best thing for me is having an excuse to spend lots of time and money hunting for music! Apart from that, just being able to share great music with other people, who will hopefully dig it too. The worst thing? There isn’t a worst thing. Anyone who says there is is either taking it all way too seriously, or they’ve forgotten why they wanted to be a DJ to begin with.

What is one of your “secret weapons” eg. a track that is guaranteed to send the crowd crazy every time?

Luke: There’s an old warehouse track called “Airport’89″ by Wood Allen, thats a favourite. “Apache” is of course an anthem in any circles, but the Warrior One remix absolutely destroys it every time I play it, so I’m gonna go with that

You’re stuck on a desert island for a month with only one album to listen to.. what would you choose and why?

Luke: A special edited version of “Revolver” by The Beatles with “Yellow Submarine” removed. It’s my favourite album, I think I’ve got 3 copies of it, but man, I HATE “Yellow Submarine”. I don’t know what they were thinking! But it’s also got “I’m Only Sleeping”, and of course “Tomorrow Never Knows” so it’s beyond amazing.

What is your favourite piece of equipment for either DJing or producing?

Luke: I’m a rarity nowadays I think, a DJ with no interest in making music. I’m simply a selector. But without a doubt, moving to Serato has been the most worthwhile technological change for me, especially for playing longer sets. It’s just great having all my music with me. I’m a 2 decks and a mixer kind of guy! I’d like to say its a ‘Korg Flangelator 5000′ but I don’t really know what all that stuff does!

Who’s on your radar as an up-and-comer/one to watch and why?

Luke: Skalliiwaggles is one of my favourite young producers & DJs. The guy seems to have a great knowledge and understanding of music from all around the world. Also Lemmy Ashton who has been making glorious noise for a couple of years now, but I don’t think gets the props he deserves.

How’s 2014 shaping up for you so far?

Luke: So far things are looking good. My first gig was new years eve/day in Bristol and was an absolute corker, the crowd were fantastic. Plenty of upcoming gigs around Cambridge, where I’m based, and of course festival season is on the horizon. Got a few festival dates to announce soon, I’m hoping Glastonbury will be in there again!

Anything you’re particularly hyped for?

Luke: Yeah, definitely the Shindig Weekender in May. The line-up is IMMENSE, Greg Wilson is a hero of mine so to be on the same line up is an honour. Aside from that, just seeing what happens, and hoping to improve what I do.

Amazing

Right music lovers let’s get straight into the mix now that you are sufficiently lubricated and feeling slightly emotional..
