Domino Effect Records released the labels first EP of 2015 this week and it’s worth paying attention to. The imprint made my top five labels of 2014 and with the direction they’re heading in, that trend is going to continue.

DEEP MATTER‘s Hornets EP includes remixes from MidnightMachiine, Dub.C & SecondSelf, MRJ, Cheap Picasso & Evasiv, offering something for every lover of house, tech house and deep house. What’s more is that the package still brings elements of the trademark Domino fire: bass heavy house with a UK twist. While it’s hard to pick a favourite – seriously every track and remix here is mint – I’m especially digging the wonky warblings of MRJ’s take on “Hornets.”

Heard some great news this week: that our good friend CYCLIST, aka Mark Penner, mixed one of the latest Poolside release for the seminal label, Toolroom Records. It’s a bit like hearing your friend won the Stanley Cup. I’m all ear to ear smiles at the news. On top of that, the former Winnipeger has two exclusive tracks on the compilation: one original and the other a remix for Vancouver’s Pat Lok.

The original is a blissed-out, slow-mo, robotdisco jam. It’s nearly impossible imagining “Heartbeat Speed” played anywhere other than on the deck of a pool, or somewhere with warm soft sand in between your toes.

The exclusive remix, is of Pat Lok’s “All In My Head.” Cyclist spins the original’s housey vibes slightly down a daytime disco path where stuttering keys glide smoothly over a groove like 29 inch tires on the trails of Fromme. (Exploding high fives if you get that reference.)

“As the crowds flock to this year’s Winter Music Conference in Miami, ‘Poolside’ is back with a fresh collection of blissed-out beats to see you through those long hot days spent unwinding by the pool. This year’s edition of ‘Poolside Miami’ has been beautifully mixed by two of the hottest DJ’s in the scene; Cyclist & Framewerk. Kicking things off is the Cyclist mix which descends into pure undiluted smooth grooves and haunting vocals and then moving darker and deeper into the Framewerk mix; both showcasing these DJ’s masterful mixing skills across a wide spectrum of genres.”

Grab these and the other 42 tracks on the compilation from iTunes.

The Miami Winter Music Conference opens its doors every March, inviting djs, music lovers and springbreakers to catch some rays and get their dance on. WMC also serves as the kick-off event for the upcoming 2015 music trends, so it’s seemingly the right place for house music lovers from all over the world to join an all-day party with their favorite DJs, at the pool or in the clubs.

This is the backdrop for Milk & Sugar Recordings to release their annual Miami Sessions compilation, a double mix album, stacked with a phenomenal tracklist. Here we have two tracks exclusive to the compilation: a new remix from EDONE & BODDEN on MILK & SUGAR‘s single “Needin U” and BEN DELAY‘s new jam “Move Your Body.”

The former serves up EdOne & Bodden’s signature garage-tinged basslines for a subtle 90s throwback slammer, while the latter is a jackin’ slice of stripped down Chicago beats, infused with muted key stabs and party-starting vocals.

The 2015 edition of Miami Sessions once again features top talent within the house music community and its deeper-running comrades. The featured artist list this year includes: Caribou, Purple Disco Machine, Royksopp, Maceo Plex, Lexer, Yves Murasca, Ben Delay, Barbara Tucker, Harry Romero, Tapesh, Sandy Rivera, David Penn, Milk & Sugar vs. Simon Harris and more. Watch for it to drop on March 13.

Banderas returns with a new EP, “2nd Take“. It’s a lively and skilful musical fusion from the Swiss producer, highlighting funk, afro and electro influences. The two original tracks, Faro and Handbrake, capture the dance floor with their steady tempo and combine straight beats with colourful, flowing melodies. While Faro is notable for its rousing exoticism, Handbrake takes us to a world of Hollywood-style car chases.

The next four tracks, remixes of Faro and Handbrake, are the result of collaborations with well-known producers: Timewarp inc, Quincy Jointz, Trotter, and new talent Fata & Morgana. The magic he creates is mouth-watering. Timewarp inc combines gentle soul harmonies with a powerful electro rhythm; the result is more than convincing. Trotter offers a breaky reading of Handbrake, reinforced with a deliciously meaty bass line. Quincy Jointz gives us a well-constructed, unforgiving, groovy steamroller of a version. As for Fata & Morgana, who was also the sound engineer on this EP, his cosmic interpretation provides “2nd Take” with an inspired breath of fresh air.

Banderas’ passion for music dates back to the ’90s, when the Swiss with Lebanese roots, who was born in 1982, began to play the guitar (rock and reggae) in different bands. In 2007, the young musician started to spin funk, soul and afro. His first steps as a producer resulted directly in his funk album “It’s Time”, which was released in November 2010 and got airplay on major radio stations in Germany, France and Switzerland. “2nd Take” is his new EP, released by Timewarp Music early in 2015.

Covert Art: outofthebox

All tracks mastered by Angelos Timewarp Stoumpos.

Banderas – 2nd Take will be available on March 2, 2015 for sale in special edition CDR and digital download at timewarpstore and all mp3 retailers across the internet.

Breakbeat Paradise Recordings has retuned with a huge line up to once again lay some serious funky breaks on you. For the third installment of the Bring Back The Funk compilations BBP has gone to the big leagues to get the grooviest funk jams from 4 of the very best producers in the nu funk/ghetto funk scene.

First up is a true funky breaks legend and label owner BadboE who’s dropping a real funk anthem based on one of funk music all-time greatest jams. By mixing and chopping it up – BadboE has no problem owning this joint from start to finish. Another successful ghetto funk producer: Father Funk continues in the golden era of funk with a slick funky groover that will leave no dancefloor empty.

The ruthless funky EP has no plans of slowing down as it introduces another talented funk producers/rapper Timothy Wisdom who has brought along some extremely huge funky grooves on his Bad Mother tune. Finally funk producer/sax play Tom Showtime brings it on home with his somewhat mellower but nevertheless finger-snapping grooves on the Turn Up The Beat jam.

Review:
“It’s sometimes easy to lose sight of the funk in the midst of all the wobble but Badboe‘s Breakbeat Paradise Recordings have made it a personal mission to ensure that the spirit of what JB started isn’t forgotten on planet breakbeat…”
