The Prototypes – City Of Gold
After much anticipation the time has finally arrived as release day comes for the debut album ‘ City Of Gold ‘ from, The Prototypes on Viper Recordings. Chris Garvey and Nick White aka, The Prototypes, are no strangers to the Drum n Bass scene having taken 3 places in the top 10 best selling D n B tracks of 2014. They have become one of the hottest acts of the scene due to their super charged sound. Picking up early support from the likes of Roni Size, Matrix and Futurebound, J-Majik and Wickaman, Andy C and also picking up Dj support from Zane Lowe, Knife Party, Annie Mac and Krewella means it’s been a very solid rise to the top for this exciting production duo.
‘ City Of Gold ‘ is an album that showcases their big room, dance floor destroying sound. ‘ Pale Blue Dot ‘, ‘ Pop It Off ‘ and ‘ Don’t Let Me Go ‘ feat. Amy Pearson, which appear on the album, have already become massive hits for The Prototypes and the whole album keeps on that consistent level of excellence. Vocal anthems and transitions in tempo leave the listener eager as to where they will be taken next. One things for sure, the energy is there throughout leaving it as one of the must have albums of the year!
‘ City Of Gold ‘ is available in both digital and physical forms. From Beatport you get an exclusive mixed version of the album and physical copies can be brought on cd and vinyl.

LSM’s 10 Mixes For The Weekend
It’s weekend time once again and yep, we’ve got another 10 cracking mixes from many different genres for you to get stuck in too. As we have done before we lay them out in the format of mixes to get you warmed up for the weekend, mixes to get the party rocking and mixes to see you through the other side when the banging beats all become a bit to much.
This weeks mixes come from 2 Bears, The Allergies, Da Fresh, Slinksta Records, Dope Trik, Andy Faze, Mob Tactics, Pete Herbert, Retsu and Se7en Deadly Breaks. Lets roll them out…
4 Warm up mixes to get the feet tapping :
A mix of House and eclectic worldly beats and sounds from 2 Bears as they provide us with a warm up mix for their appearance at this years Sonar Festival. A very interesting and intriguing collection of music that builds very nicely. Get the download HERE.
Celebrating signing their latest EP ‘ Kickin’ Up Dust ‘ to Jalapeno Records, The Allergies give us this promo mix of straight out Funk. They have also added in some choice cuts off their new EP so if Funk is your thang, get on down, this is one for you! Get the tracklist HERE.
Next up is the latest helping of music therapy from the 1605 Podcast. French producer / dj, Da Fresh is in for the guestmix as he brings us his pick of the bunch of Tech House and Techno tracks with a slightly deeper feel from the last month. Get the tracklist HERE.
Rounding off the warm up mixes is a two and a half hour mix of Reggae beats from, Slinksta Records that starts of slow and dubby, then progresses to some Nu-Funk influenced Reggae and finishes off with some boisterous Ragga Breaks.
Now for some mixes to get the party bouncing :
Utah Saints must be buzzing to have, Dope Trik signed to their Sugarbeat label. The Dope Trik guys supply us with a mix of Jackin’ House and Techno with a tempo that’ll have you bopping along constantly as you do you hair and pull on your best threads for a night on the tiles!
After a small break, Andy Faze is back with his ‘ Elements ‘ Psy-Breaks Podcast and he’s hitting this one hard. Loads of new stuff on show here with a real true Psychedelic feel. Get the tracklist HERE.
Drum n Bass duo, Mob Tactics drop a mix of epic proportions as they get warmed up for their show at Fabric on Friday the 5th June in Room 2 for, Viper Live. Proper jump up D n B right here and if you dig click HERE to get yourself a ticket to the event.
The last 3 mixes that’ll get you through the 6am lag when it’s gone a bit sideways :
The first of the laid back mixes comes from a veteran of the dance music scene, Pete Herbert, which is given to us by, The Ransom Note. This mix was recorded on the, Sancho Panza Boa Boa boat party. An hour of deep, twisted Disco awaits your ears and mind. Pure grooves!
Alex Niggemann’s, Soulfooled Podcast is one that always delivers the deepest, heartfelt and mind melting music. This weeks podcast comes from Italy’s, Retsu and is laced with the most celestial of tracklists and is pure soul food!
The Se7en Deadly Breaks boys do love to smash it when it comes to playing out but like many of us, they too love the deep vibes you sometimes yearn for in the early hazy hours of the morning. This 90 minute mix is a couple of years old now but as vol. 2 is currently being assembled they have recently let us have this one for free. Top dudes as this is stunning. Bring on vol. 2!
Enjoy the weekend ladies and gents!

High Contrast – Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Phibes Remix)
Swingamajig 2015 Well what can I say..? I know that we’ve kept banging on about it, but we can truly say that the bar has been raised. Swingamajig has come of age this year and was absolutely fantastic. The atmosphere was stunning and the quality of acts was second to none. Congratulations to the Electric Swing Circus, C@ in the H@, and all the organisers who did such a fantastic job pulling this together. My own highlights? The Dutty Moonshine Big Band absolutely rocked, great to see Chinese Man bring their downtempo hip hop grooves, Elle & the Pocket Belles with Mistatrick, and of course getting to do my own Silverscreen Soundsytem VJ show. If you missed it this year, then put the date in your diary because there is no better festival to choose on the vintage circuit than this.
Right. Let’s hit the music.
Free Music Top of the class goes to another fantastic and free compilation from Speakeasy Electro Swing in Montreal. Who else gives you this much fresh new content for free? Well done guys. Dive on in and see what goodies you can find!
A modern classic getting tweaked by Phibes:
And your boy Phibes again getting funky with Caro:
Swing? Ghetto? Yep and yep. You know what’s coming…
It’s never a bad time to drop Etta James’ I Just Wanna Make Love to you and even more so with a new C@ in the H@ mashup version:
Deep, sexy and grooving jazzy beats from Frizzo. Very nice.
FOR THE REST OF THIS POST CLICK READ MORE…
C@ in the H@ adding some bounce to this one:
Vassili Gemini dropping a little bouncey swing-house groover:
I’m not sure how politically correct this is, but the track is bouncing and would fit in a drum & bass section quite nicely:
Nice little swing version of Britney:
JPOD extended the groove of this soul classic. Available from here.
More from JPOD. Don’t actually know how to describe this, just listen and see if it works for you…
Grant Lazlo with a jazzy swingy cover of Miles Davis classic:
Funky soul sounds from Odjbox:
Chinese Man getting got by Smokey Joe & dat kid. Download from here.
Son of a preacher man remix:
My Baby Don’t Care For Me Remix:
Electro blues from that man Mick:
New Releases Electro Swing Club – Vol.2 I mentioned this last month, but it’s only just come out and so I think it definitely deserves another shout. So many good artists on this, amongst others Father Funk, Elle & the Pocket Belles, Timothy Wisdom, Captain Flatcap, Budapest Burlesque and the After Hours Quintet.
DJ Dunya – The Road Is Long Fresh, fresh and freshly squeezed! DJ Dunya is rocking the electro-blues bass heavy groove with this tidy new release.
Charlie Beale – Breakin Down Blues EP Another bagful of bouncing electro-blues from the south of Englands very own New Orleans.
Yolanda Be Cool – Soul Makossa (Money) Okay it’s more funk & soul than swing but I’m addicted to this at the moment from the guys behind We No Speak Americano. I can’t see when it wouldn’t be a good time to play this gem…
Sound Nomaden – Madame Remixes EP Plenty of good stuff on this too. Start off with the Johnny Lectro remix I reckon:
DJ Mixes Last up is Hooka sneaking in with another whistle stop journey through a whole bunch of big tunes from the swing world:
That’s it. See you in a month! If you’ve got anything you’d like included in future roundups hit me up on soundcloud.

It’s everyone’s favourite time of the week, the weekend! Once again we have a bumper package of mixes to warm you up for it, see it to it’s peak and then sooth those weary minds after it’s all done with. This week we feature some Trip Hop from Paul Cheeba, Deep House from Ellie Cocks, Metha lines up some Tech Funk, Jason Laidback gives us a dose of Bass music, Jungle vibes from Gold Dubs, a triple helping of Breaks from Headset Heroes, Retropolis and Blacklist, Disco / Nu Disco from Kraak & Smaak and to round things off some Tech House from Simon Shackleton. Lets crack on with things..
Morcheeba’s very own, Paul Cheeba, eases you into the weekend with this sensual and heady mix of Trip Hop. It’s a spell binding tracklist featuring some of the best female singers in the genre laying down there vocals over some steazy beats. Uplifting in a gentle way with several spine tingling moments. Just gorgeous! Find the tracklist HERE.
LondonHouseCloud have invited, Ellie Cocks in for a guestmix. A lady who burst onto the scene in 2012 with a reputation of bringing a unique blend of rhythmic and energetic Deep and Tech House to dancefloors of London. Ellie provides us with an hour of music that fits the aforementioned description perfectly. This one will get ya glancing at your dancing shoes!
After featuring in last weeks mix collection, Metha is back again and this time he’s dropping a mix for the mighty LOT49 podcast. It kicks off with a Techno influenced sound and rises up into some pretty fierce Tech Funk. There’s plenty of new stuff on show here including a few exclusives and an exclusive first play of his new track ‘ Shark ‘. Yreane rounds off the podcast on a Breaks tip also with an exclusive from, Mechanical Pressure who have just signed to the legendary label. Quality music all round! Get the tracklists for both mixes HERE.
The ever excellent, Armory Podcast returns to the ward and this time they’ve brought a self confessed ‘ bass music reprobate ‘ along with them, Jason Laidback. Many will know Jason from the Finger Lickin’ days as one half of, Slyde and this 45 minute mix still has hints of the bump n bounce from the those days but now the emphasis is more focused towards the Bass music sound. It’s also packed with many pre-releases on Jason’s new label, Nightprowl. The party will be well underway once this gets a spin!
It’s a return for Birmingham producer / dj, Gold Dubs to his Revamped mix series. Here he brings together an hours worth of classic Reggae riddims that have been given a Jungle makeover. There’s much skanking out to be done here with some cracking music on show so come on, don’t be shy, lets do this! Get the tracklist HERE.
The first of our three Breaks mixes comes from London duo, Headset Heroes. Normally found on Sunday night on NSB Radio banging out the hottest current Breaks tracks they have, now found themselves popping into the guestmix slot for Lady Waks radio show. Expect things to kick off from the start with this mix which features three new tracks from the guys themselves. Get on this! Tracklist HERE.
Our blogging brothers in arms, Funk n Filth, currently have UK based Retropolis supplying them with a series of barn storming Breakbeat mixes. This one featured is part 2 of 4 and my god it’s huge! 30 minutes of music that’ll get those bass faces going and a mix to really stoke up the party atmosphere! Get the first 2 mixes HERE and get the tracklist HERE.
Bringing in the baton for the Breaks mixes is American producer / dj, Blacklist. This dude has been found on the ward several times now and with this latest mix for, Broken Grooves radio show it’s clear to see why. Full throttle Breaks action from the get go here and throughout this mix. All killer no filler!
Particularly in music, when you keep searching you find gold and that’s what we have with this mix from Dutch duo, Kraak & Smaak. This is for when those legs are starting to feel the hefty pace of partying and you need to ease the tempo down. With traditional sounds from Funk, Soul, Jazz and Disco, they get combined with the more modern sounds of Deep House and Nu-Disco. All in all it’s a coming together of crisp, smooth and groove laden music! Tracklist HERE.
When the party hits a lull and you’re looking for that shimmer of inspiration to see you through the sunrise look no further than this mix by, Simon Shackleton. It’s Simon’s first studio mix for some time which has given him the chance to hone in on the perfect tracks for that perfect sunrise set. It’s a mix to restart the soul with a plethora of warming, emotive Tech House and Techno tracks. This’ll see you through those unsteady moments and back into the light. Simply gorgeous! Get the download HERE.
Once again we hope there’s something here for you to help ignite your weekend in whatever way possible. Until the next time, rave safe ladies and gents!
