It’s Scour Records’ one year anniversary! Twelve months ago we released Scoured Cream Volume 01, so to mark the occasion we thought we’d hold a Hunger Games-type celebration, unfortunately none of us are very good with weapons or murder or being murdered. An Olympics style celebration seemed a little over the top, It’s A Knock Out was on the cards but our budget ran out after making one large shoe for the Bulgarians. So we’ve scaled it down, come round to ours and have a proper party, old school fancy dress styleeee!

All the party games are prepped – pass the parcel, pin the tail on the donkey, kiss chase, naked twister, finger the angry fox, trampoline darts on poppers, all the big ones! The party sideboard is prepared! Vimto for the gents, cherryade for the ladies, Babycham for the hardcore fetishists. Bombay mix, cocktail sausages, cheese and pineapple, vol-au-vants (hopefully filled with whatever made Kerry Katona go all fruity) Anything missing, hmmmm….of course! An assortment of nuts and some party tunes! All wrapped up in a free 4 track goody bag for each and every one of you to take home!

Father Funk rocks out the bubble perm and comes strutting through the front door like a funky white brother. Who’s he come as? Mika? Kevin Keegan? No silly! He’s come as Leo Sayer!

Leo fires a bazooka in through the porch and shoots two AK47’s like he’s trying to kill every mother in the room. Apparently he likes his men like he likes his coffee (with milk and two sugars) Pimpin’!

Is that Prince tucking into the Jelly and Ice Cream? ha! Yes! It’s Warp9! Top costume!, really would prefer it if you didn’t try and make our doves cry though…they really don’t like to see your starfish impression…

The Phunk Junkies need no encouragement to crack the pearls out, before you can say ’Sir Very Elton of John’ they’ll be in a wig and heels, have the lippy on and be sashaying down the hall towards the toilet. RuPaul? Lilly Savage? Oh hell no, those legs can only belong to Dame Shirley Bassey.

Hang on a sec, sorry about this….LEO! GET YOUR FINGER OUT OF THE FOX!! it’s not time yet! Father! Leave the Phunk Junkies alone, it’s not that kind of party! Put the guns down! Oh for God’s sake!

Take your goody bag and go! We need a plunger, a SWAT team and a vet, pronto!

For the third installment of my Ramp Shows, I decided to do something very different...

What you have in front of you is an old fashioned, tipsy, Christmas mixtape. Inspired by 1960's and driven by Dean Martin, the real king of Christmas. Allow yourself go back to an era when life seemed simpler, less globalised and capitalised.

For this mix to go down properly, to precisely taste what I'm trying to say here, I've added a secret ingredient to help compliment the next seventy five minutes...something hot to warm your soul this holiday season. This may be an unorthodox step to take but "Oh my gosh my golly, it's time for Gluhwein and Knusperhauschen biscuits"!

My secret Christmas Gluhwein recipe goes as follows:

1 bottle of wine, 500ml apple juice, 1 can of pear cider, 50g sugar, 1 cinnamon stick snapped in half, 4 cloves, 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground all spice, couple of splashes of Cointreau. Just bring to the boil slowly, take 25-30mins to cook through. Repeat the stated dose.

Wow, isn’t life busy! There’s lots going on at the moment… big releases coming out, NYE parties to plan, and festive cheer is in the air! Over at Swing Towers we’re getting ready for our next event (shameless plug – poster is above) where we’re delighted to be welcoming the mighty Electric Swing Circus. If you’re in the West Midlands area of the UK come on down – I guarantee it will be fabulous. I’ve heard a few whispers about Boomtown and once again the lineup is looking incredible and tickets are flying out. For all readers of Free Breaks Blog it has to have the best lineup going. The other big announcement is that Swingamajig is back again in Birmingham on the 4th May with arguably the best electro swing lineup of any festival, well, ever I reckon! Apart from that we have heard that there may be a bit more competition in the blogosphere, but forget the young upstarts you know where the best info is…

New Releases White Mink Black Cotton 3 The release of the moment is certainly still White Mink Black Cotton 3 on Freshly Squeezed. DJ Switch has provided a mashed up version of it which gives me a great excuse to post it again. Highly recommended and available from here.

The WooHoo Revue – Remixed Vol.1 Ragtime Records have been busy gathering together a rather fine EP remixing Australias The WooHoo Revue. I road-tested a couple of these on last Friday and I have to say they go down really well. The remixes range in style from gypsy house to glitch hop, breaks to minimal from artists such as Skeewiff, donJohnston, Sound Nomaden and Audioprophecy.

Jemstone – Well Oiled Machine EP After getting truly hooked on his Pack Your Trunk release with Kid Creole it’s great to have Jemstone back with some more bass heavy groovers. There’s three tunes to check here on his latest EP available from bandcamp.

The Young Punx – Kowloon Kickback (Gramophonedzie Mix) Really loving this – it has to be worth £1.73 of your money – big horns, loads of excitement – dancefloor gold. This weeks essential release.

Leygo – Raggy Mop If you like your harder edged ghetto swing then you should check out the new remix EP of Leygo. Available from Juno and personally I reckon this is the one to pick out:

BadBoe – Hit It Maestro My ears certainly pricked up when I heard this on BadBoes Pump Up The Funk Remixed LP. The rest of the album is more straight ahead ghetto funk, but this one certainly has a bit of a vintage flavour to it. Available from Juno.

Dutty Moonshine – Rauchester EP 2 (teaser) It’s good to see a follow up for the Rauchester EP is on the way:
