The Retro Breaks scene has slowly been rising over the last year or so with various events mainly in Spain booking some of the scenes forefathers when it comes to old school nuskool breaks. Artists such as Koma & Bones, General Midi, Deep Impact, etc, have once again braced the decks to play the music we so all love and know from over a decade ago.

One of the artists who was there from the start and still continues to play today, Deekline has just dropped a bomb of a Classic Breaks Mix with a great selection of tracks that are sure to bring back some memories.

Recorded LIVE from Fozzy Fest 2017 on the Shipwrecked Stage McTwist brings his own twist on Breakbeat festival music with a high energy show to get those dancing feet moving. A lot of original tunes from McTwist in this one and of course tons of sick tunes from some of his favourite producers.

Just like when you turn the tap on you are going to get a constant supply of fresh water, when you hit that play button for a Beating The Crates episode you are going to get a constant supply of fresh music. As always Morphosis starts of the show with some downtempo beats slowly lifting the tempo to a full on assault of high tempo dance music.

Releasing a studio album pretty much each year from 2006 Hyper aka Guy Hatfield is well known for his use of live instrumentation such as guitars and bass fused with modern electronic elements. He has also performed as a band under the name Hyper Moniker, featuring Prodigy members Leeroy Thornhill and Jim Davies. Their first studio album We Control advanced Hyper to the stages of festivals throughout the world. Nowadays Hyper produces music for well known movies and TV shows as well as his own music.

General Midi, or Paul Crossman, who also performed under the name Fluid, came out of the Bristol club scene, making a splash when he became resident DJ at the Shimmy Club in 1994. His mix of breakbeat with nu-skool, electronica, house, and hip-hop made him a popular act.

Emerging from the backrooms of the Bristol Club scene his slick DJ ability and an ear for a great tune gave him regular appearances at breaks hotspots across the planet such as Fabric, Chew The Fat, Blow Pop, Sounds On Sundays (Sydney), Two Tribes (Australia), Zouk (Singapore), Budapest, all across the USA, Hungary, Spain, Serbia, China and Hong Kong. Teaming up with production partner Eelz, General Midi has been responsible for some of the most genre defining tunes in ‘The Westoner’ (’99) ‘Daft Funk’ (’01) ‘Further’ (’03) & ‘You will Be Under’ (’03), ‘Entertainer’ (’04), ‘Bass Rockerz’ (’04) & ‘House of Funk’ (’05).

General Midi’s singles have been released on some of the most respected breaks labels of the time, including TCR (Rennie Pilgrims label) & Kilowatt (Hyper’s label). In 1999 he released his single “The Westerner,” followed two years later by “Daft Funk,” the same year that his first full-length release, Genetically Modified. All of this has led to his debut artist album ‘Midi Style’ which was released on Distinct’ive Records in 2005. In 2009 he released his follow up album ‘Operation Overdrive’.

Paul Crossman also worked with writing partner and audio engineer Al Watson in the duo act called “Starecase”.

Currently Paul Crossman works as as a Teacher of Computing at Lampton School, London UK.

Froe, Gav and Merf made up the Nuskool Breaks collective The Breakfastaz, known in the early 2000’s for their unique sound and a heavy hitter in the Tear Out Breaks scene at that time. With other musical projects going on later in their careers the lads gained a huge following leading them touring the world, releasing over 20 successful tracks and remixes for top labels such as Passenger, Mob & Against The Grain. In 2005 the Breakfastaz won Best Breakthrough Act at the Breakspoll World Breakbeat Awards.

This mix was recorded for Australia’s Triple J Radio network back in July 2007.

This mix is a promotional set for Space Pizza Records by Spanish superstar Breaks artist Shade K, 18 tracks in 20 minutes so this mix really moves along with some peak time bangers all in that Spanish style of Breakbeat we all love and know.
