For us here at Free Breaks Blog, Skeleton Army releases represent the highlight of the year. Because we know that they are always going to be extra special. with this in mind we eagerly awaited the preview clips of the ‘For Always EP’ and were knocked off our seat when we heard them. The EP is out 29/08/16 on Different Attitudes as an initial Traxsource exclusive.

We get two two enchanting and magical slices of Deep House. One of them ‘For Always’ has two stunning mixes. Firstly the ‘Raw Mix’ works a breathless Minnie Riperton over early morning spacial grooves and carefully weaved 4×4 kicks and shuffling breakbeats wherein lurk low-end sub bass brilliance.

The ‘Smooth Mix’ filters the vocals into a glorious drop before reintroducing the breaks and kicks combo and warm funky bassline for a super soulful excursion.

‘Morning Glory 2016′ reminds us in the most pleasing way that there will always be an element of the legendary Foul Play to Skeleton Army’s music. You could easily shed a few tears listening to the raver’s favourite ‘until the night is morning’ vocal (for those who know). Combined with the rumbling bass and spine-tingling keys  here is a track that should never leave your box, it’s that simple

This gem of an EP, easily one of the best of 2016 in any genre let alone House Music is out 29/8/16

Free Breaks Blog House Music Picks #001

Even though he is at the core and is one of the vital cogs in the Desert Hearts party machine, Marbs is only just making his debut on the label. That in itself is quite remarkable and so is the music he has on offer for us. His ‘Tusk & Tales’ EP features 4 free tracks that are just out this world and truly breathtaking.

The title track from the EP ‘Tusk & Tales’ is very much a music journeyman’s track. It’s one of those tunes you’ll get lost in and wander off into with no concept of what’s going on in the real world. Spanish producer, TÂCHES backs up the the track with a thoroughly soul soothing remix to boot. ‘Loveish’ is Marbs second free tune that’s packed with hypnotic Tribal vibes and the final track ‘Pink Skies’ delivers a wave of ethereal warmth to give a golden glow to everyone who experiences it. Must have music!

Every Brazilian on the planet will still be buzzing from how their footie team went about winning the gold medal at this years Olympics and the guys from Arcade Fighters are no different. They’re so happy they’ve put up this sharp and snazzy Disco tune, which is dedicated to and named after one of their all time heroes from Brazilian football, Zagalo. Plenty of good times will be had to this track, so make sure you’re getting your share by giving it a spin.

Luckily for us all that day has arrived and we can share with you his latest offering ‘Supa Legal’, a slab of Funky Breaks with a distinct Brazilian flavour so you can throw in a bit of Samba to your very best moves. Great sounds!

Back in 2004, Angelos Stoumpos aka, Timewarp, was hugely influenced and inspired by the Nu-Funk and Dub Electronica sounds that were around. He knew that in his homeland of Greece those styles of music were lacking and knew this had to change, so he went about creating his very own label, Timewarp Music.

From 2004 to the present day, Timewarp Music has grown massively and has released a staggering amount of high quality music. There’s over 500 tracks to be found on the labels Soundcloud page which is enough to keep anyone highly entertained for a very long time. With all these successful releases it might go without saying that Angelos has created one of the go to labels for all things Nu-Funk, Nu-Disco, Dub and Breaks. I’ve dug in to a small portion of what’s available from Timewarp Music and I can assure you that I will be digging a lot deeper in the future.

Should all those words need backing up, check out the fifth compilation album in their ‘Freestyle 4 Funk’ series and you’ll soon see why the label is one you really need to keep tabs on. 16 tracks make up the album that’s features a incredible selection of old, new and unreleased tracks in Downtempo, Dub, Reggae, Nu-Funk, Soul and Breaks styles. The range in styles means there will always be something different around the corner which will have locked on with excitement to see what’s up next. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again “there’s some seriously good albums to have graced the ward this year” and this one from Timewarp Music is right up there with the best of em!

Although ForrestFunk keeps himself busy as one third of the Swiss collective, Break Boutique, he does like to dabble, just a little, in making his own tunes. For that we can be very grateful because, as you’re about to hear, this dude really knows how to bring the funk! Just check his impeccable regroove of ‘What The People Gon’ Say’ by Reuben Wilson and you’ll know exactly what we mean. He’s one producer I’m sure we’ll be featuring again, that’s for sure!
