We’re catching up with one of our fave House labels, Unique2Rhythm with 2 essential new releases by True2life & Secret Sinz/Wayne Dudley….

True2life Ft Phillip Ramirez- That’s How Much I Love You

This track will wrap you up nice n’ warm with seminal soul/disco sounds set to a house beat and completed by vocals that perfectly fit the mood and vibe of this great big underground modern classic. How much do we love this? 110%!!

Secret Sinz & Wayne Dudley- Living In The Moment

Secret Sinz draws inspiration from 90’s house music anthems a la Basement Jaxx, anything on Defected, Strictly Rhythm, Todd Terry et al. He distills those influences into his own crisp productions loaded with all the good stuff, pianos, sweeping melodic drops, you name it.

Wayne Dudley is another favourite to the blog and like Secret Sinz, he too has carved a clear niche for quality beats with an oldskool feel. This collab really is the best of both worlds featuring all the vital ingredients as mentioned above. As a real bonus, Wayne Dudley’s remix is a deep soulful treat with a touch of Fusion Groove Orchestra style smoothness, rolling percussion and a catchy as fire lead hook, excellent!!

Gogan – Knives & Hammers EP

Gogan brings ‘Knives’ and ‘Hammers’ to Swerve Digital. but we’re not talkin’ kitchen utensils here. When it comes to fulfilling your music dreams, Stuart Ojelay must be well on his way to completing many of his. With a long association with the legendary, Hed Kandi, and because of his superb production and DJing skills, he’s played in every continent on the planet at some of the biggest and most extravagant parties out there.

Stuart’s production work is all House based but he likes to mix it up and sounding fresh by dipping into Bass, Soulful, Deep and Disco styles of the genre. The latter of those is what caught our attention in a big way with this reboot of his of ‘Dance With Me’ by, Carrie Lucas. You’ll more than likely remember the tune of the original as Armand Van Helden used it in his track ‘You Don’t Even No Me’. Stuarts’s owning this one though as his rework has a real driving force and has a massive amount of funk and groove on board and we love a bit of that!

Taking it back the oldschool is Doctor Jeep with a new mix of all Breakbeats including a selection of music from the 1990’s plus a few new tunes from the legendary hardcore breakers 2 Bad Mice. This is not your conventional mix of Breaks but a selection of oldschool sounds.

“For this mix I wanted to do something a little different and gave myself a theme to work with – only using tunes that strongly incorporate a breakbeat in their rhythm section. I find it much more difficult to organize a set this way (as opposed to my standard strategy of just tossing in a bunch of new stuff and hoping for the best), but it keeps me fresh. I find breakbeats weirdly hypnotic and just love the loose groove they provide. The mix contains some brand new and unreleased tunes from myself (DJ Bark Lee) alongside a few 90’s rave tracks and upcoming bits from classic artists like 2 Bad Mice. Shoutout to Dubbel Dutch too for “Throwback” – that was the first vinyl I ever bought!” – Doctor Jeep

Are Breaks making a return to the spotlight of EDM music ? To me they never went away and Breakzlinkz is proof of that. Spanish DJ, SEEKFLOW raises the question with a new mix of upfront Breaks and Bass music.

General Midi, or Paul Crossman, who also performed under the name Fluid, came out of the Bristol club scene, making a splash when he became resident DJ at the Shimmy Club in 1994. His mix of breakbeat with nu-skool, electronica, house, and hip-hop made him a popular act.

Emerging from the backrooms of the Bristol Club scene his slick DJ ability and an ear for a great tune gave him regular appearances at breaks hotspots across the planet such as Fabric, Chew The Fat, Blow Pop, Sounds On Sundays (Sydney), Two Tribes (Australia), Zouk (Singapore), Budapest, all across the USA, Hungary, Spain, Serbia, China and Hong Kong. Teaming up with production partner Eelz, General Midi has been responsible for some of the most genre defining tunes in ‘The Westoner’ (’99) ‘Daft Funk’ (’01) ‘Further’ (’03) & ‘You will Be Under’ (’03), ‘Entertainer’ (’04), ‘Bass Rockerz’ (’04) & ‘House of Funk’ (’05).

General Midi’s singles have been released on some of the most respected breaks labels of the time, including TCR (Rennie Pilgrims label) & Kilowatt (Hyper’s label). In 1999 he released his single “The Westerner,” followed two years later by “Daft Funk,” the same year that his first full-length release, Genetically Modified.
