Preset- Back To The… EP2
Buy Here
Seems like only yesterday when our ears feasted on Preset’s first volume in the ‘Back To The… ‘ series. Now those very ears are treated to a second round, three in total tracks; all straight up 1992 rave themed future house B A N G E R S!!!
Once again, Preset take three stone cold classics from the era of glowsticks and Hi-vis jackets and retells their story in slammin’ 4×4 House music style. ‘The Bouncer’, ‘We Are IE’, and ‘DJs Unite’ all get a fresh lease of life for 2017. We especially love ‘DJs Unite’, a track that builds up with jungle breaks cleverly mapped to the house beats before those mess with your brain riffs known to a certain age group kick in just ahead of the Future House mid section still with breakbeats intact!!! A huge EP from Preset, we really hope there will be further volumes in future!!!

Mugshot – Run the Rhythm / Out There
Buy Here
Mugshot displays their aptitude for some deep rooted in the oldskool slammin’ DnB with ‘Run The Rhythm’ and ‘Out There’ on Inna Rhythm Recordings
‘Run The Rhythm’ hearkens back to the sound of DJ Krust and Bad Company circa 2000. A preternatural intro leads into sharp shots of abrasive bass and brunt drumbeats. ‘Out There’ keeps to this vein embedding some funky 90’s era jump up bassline pressure into the mix. No need to fix what was never broken, this is the DnB we know and we most definitely love!!!

Petko Turner is a producer who makes high calibre music and since we discovered his work, it’s been a mainly Disco influenced affair. VA- Mother Knows Best 4
Buy Here
‘Mother Knows Best 4′ on Mother Recordings kicks off in a most resounding manner with the buoyant beats of Robosonic & KlangKuenstler ‘Nuts’, a thumping rendition with a sanguine disco lead hook. This one will go down well with fans of imprints the likes of Simma Black
Birdhouse ‘OMG’ grabs your attention not just because of the unforgettable vocal sample. The rising constitution of 8 bar synths, crunching beats and whiplash/cowbells is just as attention grabbing!!
Rodriguez & Gabriel Sordo construct a recondite expedition through the dusty roads of Latin America with the hypnotic chords of ‘Camino Largo’, a great crowd warmer.
Thabo Getsome asks ‘Where The Party At’ for track four of ‘Mother Knows Best 4′ incorporating eerie off the wall Jazz sounds, the kind that once graced Hip Hop in it’s golden age and are now utilised by the likes of Greco and others.
Andromo gets to wrap things up with ‘State Of Mind’, a rugged dubby track in the style of Lupe Fuentes & Black Girl // White Girl. A tidy way to round up this essential compilation. Mother definitely knows best!!!

Fancy Inc- All About Love
Buy Here
The ‘All About Love EP’ by Fancy Inc is out on Warung Records with bonus track ‘Run To My House’ and title track remixes from Rich Wakley & A Lister
The title track carries an ignitable armoury of powerful funky synths, familiar samples that create an instant attachment, and a main hook that sits ‘All About Love’ in that lofty position with House music’s finest tracks of the decades. A Lister sails the title track into techier waters going for an ensemble of cowbells, Rave/Techno riffs and marching beats. Rich Wakley adds that touch of class he is renowned for with a remix that stands defiantly between the borders of House & Techno
Bonus track ‘Run To My House’ makes for a highly effective call to action. The beats hit satisfyingly hard with rugged synths to match, there’s so much to love about the ‘All About Love EP’ by Fancy Inc!!!

Fort Knox Five (FK5) was formed back in 2003 by four like-minded musicians, Steve Raskin, Jon Horvath (RIP), Rob Myers and Sid Barcelona. Each musician in the group have also worked with other acts in the music industry including Thunderball, Thievery Corporation and See-I to name a few. Fort Knox Five also formed their own label Fort Knox Recordings to release their unique style of funky music. Fort Knox Recordings still runs today with various artists contributing their music over the years and giving the label its mass following. With the recent sad passing of Jon Horvath they still continue to play shows as a LIVE instrumental act as well as rocking the turntables to the masses.
