Y4K began life as a compilation series within its former parent Distinctive Records. As one of the longest running and most respected breaks compilation series it has featured mixes from such illustrious names as Tayo, Uberzone, Evil Nine, Ils, Hybrid, DJ Icey, General Midi and Annie Nightingale amongst others. In 2007 Y4K left Distinctive Records to become a label in its own right.

This mix from Future Funk Squad was made for the Y4K series but was never used or released till now. FFS has put this up on Bandcamp for you to name your price to download. There are some golden oldies in this mix !

Dave Gerrard‘s earliest attempts at mixing was way back in 1980 with a setup of three tape decks. He got his first proper decks in 1990, started Djing and has never looked back. The natural progression took place and Dave soon found himself sitting down to produce his own music. He’s a huge lover of Disco and as well as making his own shiny gems, he, like many others in his field, just loves to add his own twist to some of his personnel favourites from times gone by, so that they slip right in to the feel of today’s dance floors.

For his latest release he’s put his spin on Empire‘s ‘Freakman’, a tune that had the movers and groovers doing their thing in 1981 and now, in the present day, it’s our turn to put our Disco shapes to good use from the extra funk and fatness that’s now been added to the original. Specimen A are brothers Phil and Mo Jones alongside DJ Smart. Born into a family of musicians, they are nephews of 80’s pop star Howard Jones and were raised with a strict classical training whilst developing a love for electronic music. Recorded LIVE from Breakspoll 2007 by BBC Radio 1 and aired on the Annie Nightingale Show this is Krafty Kuts LIVE tearing up the dance floor and showing what a true professional he is. His album Freakshow won “Best Album” that year as well as winning the “Outstanding Contribution” category and claiming the award for “Best DJ”.

Lloyd Seymour aka Skool Of Thought was a British Breakbeat Producer/DJ based originally in Brighton UK. Staring off his career at a night called Supercharged in Brighton along with the likes of Ed Solo and Krafty Kuts. Currently based in Australia, Skool of Thought has been a key contributor to ‘nu skool’ breaks scene since it was born into the late nineties. He was driving force of ‘Against the Grain’ and ‘SuperCharged’ record labels, SOT is widely considered to be an ambassador of all things Breaks and Bass.

This mix from Australia’s Triple J Radio from 2009 and is a good indicator of his talent and passion as a DJ and Producer.

Spanish artist LDP Breaks has produced this new mix for an upcoming gig called “Kings Of The Bass” along with a stellar local line up including Mutantbreakz and Yo Speed, LDP Breaks is set to take to the stage and drop a Bass and Breaks mix similar to this on on the night.
