Many raw emotions are felt towards the entire crowd of all the hard working passionate artists, but I can only feature so many at once, so here are a few that really moved my heart to the beat of their bassline:

Lucent Dossier Experience
If you have not heard of this circus troupe, you better get familiar with it because they are changing the very core of the entertainment industry. They create an environment of overwhelming ecstasy, joyous bewilderment, and impossible creativity. Their musical style is pretty otherworldly, which complements their zany behaviours quite nicely. It is not uncommon to see them with a full orchestra of live musicians playing alongside their electronic tunes as circus cats enthral the crowd with their performance artists. Their dance moves are unbelievably wacky, their fire-spinners are dangerously professional, and their aerialist contortionist make you feel like you just walked into a Cirque De Soleil show on LSD. My heart just leaps with joy knowing that something like them actually exists. Beyond all costs, make sure you see their show at least once in your lifetime.

Fort Knox Five
This mastermind group are the godfather’s of modern funk, and have changed the scene internationally. Their infectious sound is a blend of live instuments, hiphop, reggae, and funky electronic breakbeats. When so many artists will cancel a tour due to a sore throat, what these heroes did sends chills up my spine. They rocked the Fractal Forest stage, accurately dubbed “The funkiest place on Earth”, without their co-founder and brother Jon Horvath just 2 weeks before his life faded away. Their immeasurable courage and spunk was celebrated by the thousands of beautiful people that congregated in this ultimate playground to funk for peace. They stay true to their mission, spreading the funk all over the place, inspiring your moves and grooves.

SUBVERT
This man is responsible for the beautiful curation behind the big bad sound of Shambhala’s Village stage, a role fit for no one else.  2015 was his 10 year anniversary as stage director and in celebrating that, he made his whole set with all his favourite tunes over the past decade. With such respectable musical knowledge, he stays true to his own vision for his unique sound. At a Subvert set you can expect to hear heavy dub, drumstep, hiphop, glitchy bounce, and classic rock songs all in a few minutes. Not a single soul can resist swaying to his frequencies, no foot left untapped. Having him drop “Zombies by The Cranberries” as his closing tune was a truly beautiful moment that so many waited years for.

TIPPER
Dave Tipper is a British musical producer that really sets his sound apart from anything else you have heard of. He will take you for a journey through his unreleased productions, uptempo ambience and old-school turntabilism. He really keeps you on your toes with such fast-paced dripping techno sound where every beat leaves you wondering whats next. This musical genius delivers cutting-edge precision of mind-melting sound uniquely his own, giving everyone an uncontrollable eargasm. If his live sets weren’t already legendary enough, Shambhala really set the bar this year for having visual artist Android Jones join the stage. From monarch butterflies rolling into fractal wormholes blossoming into chakra flowers and more… Android Jones’ art was an indescribable psychedelic dream. Shambhala sure knows how to spoil us.

MOONTRICKS
This Kootenay cat is definitely an exciting up-and-comer in our bass scene, and his passionate efforts shine brightly when you see him up on stage. Pouring all his love into his sets, he blends his vast range of musical preferences into one delectable taste. From trap to soul, blues to deep dubstep, and glitch-hop to guitars and harps, he can soothe any crowd into dance-induced bliss. His earthly sound was a perfect fit for The Grove stage’s sunday evening show. His sound is simply organic, beautiful and real. We are pretty lucky to experience his rise to fame together, I just can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

The newest release on Hostage Bass features 2 tracks by Producer Convention, upfront bouncing bassy n beastly booty breaks in the form of ‘P.A.R.T.Y’ and some excellent dark grimey techno influenced house in ‘I Wanna Lay You On Your Back’, to find out a bit more about Producers Convention, here is their press release…..

” Producer Convention are four garage mechanics who have had more than a slice of luck recently when their work lotto pool at ‘Dave’s Engines’ in Peckham was worth 2 million quid. Since their win back in October, the Brixton four have invested their money in lush DJ equipment, 4 solid gold astronaut helmets to hide their identities, and sponsored Facebook posts. Their debut release P.A.R.T.Y. comes at you in the form of a bouncy club floor banger, documenting life as Producer Convention know it right now. “It’s like living inside The Wolf Of Wall Street really, except with a lot more coke and ass” says one of the masked men, oozing Dappy like confidence. And indeed it seems like ass is the most present theme on the EP’s second song, I WANNA LAY YOU ON YOUR BACK. The title says it all really. In fact those are the only lyrics on the track”

There is simply no stopping the music machine that is, Joshua Harvey aka Hervé. With many years of producing, djing and remixing under his belt it’s a consistent onwards and upwards trend for this talented artist. Working under many different guises such as The Count ( with Sinden ), Speaker Junk and the collective, Machines Don’t CareHervé can draw on a vast amount of knowledge from many different areas of the musical spectrum.

We caught up with Hervé and asked him a few questions about his latest release ‘ You Give Me Something ‘ with remixes from Jay Robinson and one from Hervé himself, plus future projects, music tech and his favourite ever festival.

LSM : Thanks for taking time to speak to us Joshua. Could you tell us a bit about your new release ‘ You Give Me Something ‘ and where the inspiration came from to make it?

Joshua : It came from a writing session with Anita Blay and the singer Daisy. We were working on a few different bits but we got on a roll with this track and it came together very quickly. We wrote and recorded the vocal in the next two hours, Daisy did the lead and Anita did some great backing and ad libs. I worked on various versions over the next few weeks. Love and Other were the first to hear it and picked it up straight away. I’d just finished my collab with Armand Van Helden and was on a bit of a late eighties early nineties house tip and the music came from that little spell of writing.

Buy ‘ You Give Me Something ‘ here.

LSMJay Robinson has provided a tasty remix of your new track and we see you’ve reworked it with a Fidget House twist. How did the decision to do that come about?

Joshua : I’ve been in contact with Jay for years, every since his early Dub Frequency stuff on Cheap Thrills. He’s a talented guy and I just wanted to keep supporting him so I asked him to put his spin on it. With my Future Fidget remix (I was just having a bit of fun with that remix title) I wanted rep more of my sound as the original is pretty straight house, not something I do too much as Hervé.

Buy Jay Robinson’s remix here.

Download Hervé’s remix premiered by DJ Mag here.

LSM : You’ve released your new material on Love & Other. Are there any plans for future releases with them?

Joshua : Yeah I can see that for sure in the future, either as Hervé or under another name. If they will have me! I’ve really enjoyed working with Ricky . I’ve just signed to Skint so I have a commitment to them right now.

LSM : What equipment are you using to make music these days in the ever changing world of gadgets and gadgetry?

Joshua : Bootcamped iMac with Cubase and a few bits of hardware. I have an SSL Nucleus which has given me a bit of agro recently but has the best sound I’ve ever heard for recording vocals and instruments.

LSM :  Is there anyone out there that you have drawn influences from to help hone your sound?

Joshua : Nothing specific. I always draw from a wide range of influences from a wide range of genres to find new ways to do something interesting.

LSM : There’s quite a few major names you’ve remixed. Anymore in the pipeline?

Joshua : Not sure if I can say, but I think it’s ok. I’m remixing a Fatboy Slim classic for Skint which I’m pretty impatient to get cracking on and a new KC Lights track on Cheap Thrills. I do enjoy remixing, for a while I got a bit burned out remixing as Hervé, Speaker Junk and The Count and Sinden, I must’ve done 40/50/60 remixes I can’t remember!

LSM : Having unearthed  and signed some very talented artists to your label ‘ Cheap Thrills ‘, is there any up and coming stars you can tell us about?

JoshuaKC Lights is a new addition to the label. Incredibly talented writer and producer who has a massive future. He’s got some big releases and collabs coming.

LSM : Having played all around the world, could you give us a venue or festival that holds special memories for you?

Joshua : I love playing Secret Garden Party. Such a great atmosphere and great crowd, played three times and always ready to return. Any festival in Belgium is great, awesome crowd and they treat you very nicely.

LSM : Everyone has a turn to track when the chips are down, what’s one of yours that you use for maximum inspiration in the same situation?

Joshua : I don’t think I have one track. New tracks come along all the time that have something about them and spark an idea, it’s a continuous process.

LSM : And finally, what does the future have in store for, Herve?

Joshua : Working on my album right now. New EP coming very soon on Skint. A real spread of what I’m up to on it with a couple of great features.

Once again, thanks for your time Joshua.

Our Winnipeg homie LAMBO is back again with another collaboration with TWRK…and it’s huge. The tune cuts up an obscure bollywood sample, built it into a heavy lfo growl under heavy drums and fat 808s.

The tune has been wrecking havoc during festivals all summer and now it’s finally available to the masses, on Get Right Records.
