The Booty Fruit Record label has rapidly become a name synonymous with supplying upfront party funk nuggets that get dance floors rocking and heads a nodding. Roast Beatz takes Grand Puba, Biggie Smalls and Thievery Corporation on a smooth and sexy down-tempo trip, constructing a perfect tune for those early funk warmer sets entitled This Is Not A Love Song. El Bomba and hidden Riddim keep the tempo low but take the vibe up high for their tune On A Mission as they combine one seriously tasty breakbeat with an even more delectable bass line, resulting in a sure fire booty shaker. Waggles tune has the upbeat tempo covered and is appropriately titled Mash Up The Fun which is exactly what he’s done, with the likes of Afrika Bambaataa and the Beastie boys getting a massive fun(k)ed up samba work over. The absolute highlight of this release for me though has to be Badboes sublime effort Playin Yourself in which he delivers the best use of Ini Kamozes Hot Stepper I’ve ever heard (and I’ve heard my fair share) melded superbly with Jeru The Damaja, some slick beat work and the juiciest disco bassline your likely to hear to create a guaranteed floor burner.

Mookie & Mooz are two Italian producers who live, breathe, eat and sleep all things Disco. Their love affair with the genre can be best found in the music they make, all of which needs checking out, including this new edit of Ronn Matlock‘s 1979 hit ‘Love City‘, which is absolutely incredible! The horns are blazing away and the deep Disco groove applied by the guys to their edit is off the scale and when you add in Ronn’s super smooth vocal, we’ve got ourselves a real masterpiece to own. Last time DJ Snatch was on the ward he literally set the place alight with his Etta James edit and he’s back once again with another rework that’s gonna light your fires once more. His Latin influenced take on The Doors all time classic ‘Light My Fire‘ is a real piece of class and if it doesn’t have you grinning from ear to ear, you best popping along to the doctors asap, because the feel good factor is cemented firmly in place from start till finish. Canadian producer, Dustin Funkman, has the perfect name for the kind of music he creates as he’s one that loves the Funk and one that loves the Break. Our first introduction to his work is his rework of his fellow countrymen, The Sheepdogs and their track ‘I Don’t Know‘. The bluesy/rock vibe is neatly carried over to the chunky beats and wonky bass and both come together seamlessly to create a good ol’ fashioned Ghetto Funk banger.

Dustin’s track has been released on Young NRG Productions and head honcho of the label Stex, has got in on the remix action. His remix kicks that bit harder and features a crisp Bboy breakdown that’ll have you itching to try out your best moves. A couple of cracking tunes that cheer you immensely.

Beat Assassins first release of 2017 is here to lay down a marker as to how things are gonna pan out this coming year. ‘See Ma Gun Go‘ sees a return to his trademark sound of quirky, vocal led Drum n Bass. Featuring on this track is the rising British rap star, Miss Stylie, who collabed with Beat Assassins on the hugely successful ‘War Dem‘. Miss Stylie once again fires out lyrics at a fast and ferocious pace over driving bass and heavy hitting drums. Class stuff as always!

If you’re loving Beat Assasssins tune but want it a bit harder, Toronto Is Broken‘s remix is well worth checking! He’s delivered a full throttle, peak-time monster that’s only mission is to cause the maximum amount of mayhem on which ever dance floor it lands.

Phibes have been on a D n B tip for the last 4 weeks and have gone about dropping a track a week, which means there’s some proper heavy-duty beats and bass heading your way. They’ve remixed tracks from Fatboy Slim, Katy B, Featurecast‘s remix of The Ganja Kru and Dr Dre and it’s clear to hear that this is some of their heaviest work to date on the D n B side of things. Fiery, ferocious and bouncy tunes galore with each one being a pure party starter, so take your pick or bag them all!

With April 20th on the horizon (4/20), tokers all around the globe will be stocking on their favourite flavours so that they can celebrate their annual day by strapping up a few fat ones to blaze the day away. If you happen to be one of those people, this new mix from the Latin alternative group, Empresarios, will be the perfect soundtrack to your chilled, hazy day. It features a very cool selection of Reggae, Dub, Latin, Cumbia and Hip Hop music and has been put together ahead of their upcoming show at the National Cannabis Festival in Washington DC. As well as Empresarios performing on the day, other acts on the bill include Backyard Band, Talib Kweli and The Pharcyde.

We appreciate the subject matter of this post may not be to everyone’s taste, but the music in the mix is most definitely worth a listen, especially if you’ve had one of those days where you need to end it by chilling the ‘f’ out.
