From the very start you might think you’re gonna get a straight out House track but oh no, after a few seconds you’re greeted by vintage horns and upon the minute mark, where this beauty drops, you receive the naughtiest of basslines and traditional Chinese instruments for an oriental style twist. Each 1500 sales of ‘Beating Heart – Malawi’ will mean the sustainable provision of food for a school of 500 children forever ‘An archive of original African music, the International Library of African Music (ILAM), has been made available for the first time ever to be remixed and released by current music artists. Special permission to access the archive was given to Beating Heart as money raised will go directly to help communities where the music was originally recorded’

From the people that brought you critically acclaimed label Black Butter comes a new project ‘Beating Heart’. For release No1 ‘Malawi’ a group of top artists rework field recordings by the ethnomusicologist Hugh Tracey (1903-1977) who made 35,000 recordings across Africa between the 1920s & 70s.

Featured on this compilation are a broad range of musical luminaries such as Luke Vibert, Rudimental, With You and Jimi Needles to name just a few. The music is just as diverse and high quality as this incredible talent roster suggests and sales for every 1500 copies will go towards supporting the Love Support Unite Foundation in rolling out the ‘Garden to Mouth’ (G2M) food initiative that will introduce nutrition to schools in Malawi through the use of an “outside classroom” – linking garden, food, nutrition and education.

The G2M food initiative will:

• Sustainably feed students that attend the schools through organic irrigated gardens.

• Educate students with practical knowledge giving them the tools to be in charge of their own food security.

• Generate income, through sales of crops at local markets, that will be re-invested back into expanding the Gardens.
